The benefit of reconstructive jaw surgery is not only functional (bite aligns better) but we treat the patient’s ideal facial aesthetic. For this patient, our surgical plan included leveling the upper jaw, rotating the lower jaw, centering the chin, and reducing the size of the chin vertically and in profile. Her main goal was to soften the chin and achieve a more feminine appearance. We also planned limited access to rhinoplasty and septoplasty (LARS). This is where we remove the internal structure of the nose that limits breathing (septum) and use that cartilage to better support the tip and middle vault of the nose. The surgery was planned with careful clinical assessment and a virtual session with an engineer was used to design the precise osteotomy in both jaws and the chin.
