Jowls Are Starting to Appear, What Are The Best Options?
Jowling
Oct 29, 2019
Great Question!
As we age the skin envelope and the underlying retaining ligaments of the skin loosen. This leads to decent and drop of our cheek fat pads. Gravity is undefeated!!! Bone also atrophies (gets smaller) which leads to a less prominent jawline and can lead to jowl formation.
Depending on the deficit, your age, and your desire for results there are numerous treatments for this issue. Proper diagnosis by a Board Certified Cosmetic Surgeon is of the…
Voluma only lasted a few months in temples. Is there a different option that actually works?
Restoring Volume in the Temporal Region
Jul 18, 2019
Bjhsc,
Great question! For longer lasting results, I like to use autogenous fat. While some volume loss is expected after fat transfer, you will typically get a 50% improvement. With a baseline improvement, additional fat can be used later, or “tweaking” can be performed with other fillers such as Voluma or Radiesse.
As always, it is prudent to have an in-person evaluation by an expert with knowledge of the anatomy in the region to obtain safe and…
Aside from Botox, which cosmetic treatments/procedures would you recommend for a 50 year old woman t
Multi-Modal Treatment for Facial Rejuvenation
Jul 18, 2019
Great question Chumly,
Facial aging is a complex process and affects multiple layers within the face.
Starting with the skin, daily SPF and a retinoid will help to protect the skin from further damage and increase the cellular turnover rate, which will give the skin a more youthful appearance. Chemical peels come in many different forms, ranging from extremely superficial (performed at a salon) to deep (performed under sedation and local anesthesia). Recovery time varies…
Best Filler for Lip Augmentation
Modern Techniques for Natural Lips
Jul 8, 2019
That’s a great question and it really depends on a few things.
1. Have you ever had your lips augmented before? If you have not, starting with a temporary filler such as a hyaluronic acid product gives your the option of reversibility. If you have, and are looking for a permanent increase because you are happy with the new size, then I love to use fat or Silikon 1000. This product allows you to create create the size, shape, and characteristics of the lips that you…
Is this bump caused by getting dermal filler?
Bump
Mar 14, 2019
Marie13496,
As it is difficult to give a diagnosis via photo, I would recommend returning to your physician for evaluation. That location is not a location I typically administer filler, and without your records it is difficult to say if this is a sequelae of your injections. To avoid potential complications, I always recommend treatment performed by a surgeon or expert trained extensively in facial anatomy.

How do I fix my facial asymmetry after fillers?
Asymmetry
Mar 14, 2019
Redson2000,
Placement of fillers and botox is critical in obtaining precise, symmetric, and aesthetically pleasing results. Most individuals are not 100% symmetric prior to treatment and without seeing a “Before” photo, it is difficult to comment on what the solution would be in your case. If you had a hyaluronic acid filler placed, it can be absorbed by using a hyaluronidase injection. If the asymmetry is from the poor placement of botox, the options include…
Fillers before or after chin implant?
Before or After
Sep 6, 2018
Hmjamal,
Great question. The surgeries you are schedule to have will have a profound change on both your lower and mid-face. If it were me, I would prefer for you to have the surgeries first and then use the fillers after the swelling (edema) and bruising have all resolved (4-6 weeks). Otherwise, in my opinion you are altering areas of the face before they undergo change, therefore those fillers may be inappropriate with your new facial proportions. Cheers! …
What can I do to get rid of this small hole new my chin?
Fillers and Subcision
Aug 21, 2018
Melaniebrowne,
Depressed areas like this appear to be from underlying scar tissue that is tethering the superficial tissues down toward the deeper tissues. A combination treatment of first, breaking up the scar tissue with a technique called subcision and second, using a dermal filler to add volume to the area would be my initial recommendation. Resurfacing of the entire peri-oral area with a laser would help bring a more youthful appearance to the entire region. A…
How long do they keep the remaining half of the syringe when lip injections are done?
Lip Fillers – Left over Filler
Aug 17, 2018
Revampy,
Each office and physician will have a slightly different view on this issue. Most offices I am familiar with will preserve the remainder of a unused syringe for their patients for small touch ups a few weeks later (final results of fillers typically take around 2 weeks in the lips). Some will keep the syringe refrigerated until the expiration date. It is best to check with your specific physician for their policy. Cheers – Dr. Nesiba
I got smile line injections 1 wk ago. I still have bruising and lumps on the inside of my mouth
Swelling and Bruising after Fillers
Aug 16, 2018
Rachaelmilbrandt,
Even though we think of fillers as a non-surgical procedure, injections themselves can cause micro-trauma to the area which results in signs of inflammation (swelling, bruising, even redness). In most individuals it can take up to 2 weeks for bruising to resolve. If the irregularities persist, I would recommend being re-evaluated by your injector and if your results are less than ideal hyaluronic acid fillers such as juvederm can be reversed with hyaluronidase…
Can I have hyaluronic acid cheek fillers 9 days after surgical tooth extraction.
HA Injections after Extractions
Aug 16, 2018
Kazfiz,
The sutures most Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons use are either gut or chromic gut sutures which typically dissolve anywhere between 5-14 days. In my experience once the sutures have dissolved the surgical site has developed a healthy level of healing. HA cheek fillers should not interfere with the healing of an extraction socket as long as the filler is not placed directly into that site. Most cheek fillers would be placed into the zygoma (cheek bone)…
Could I just have swelling where filler was injected into chin?
Swelling is likely the culprit
Apr 28, 2018
Most surgical procedures, injections included, can cause swelling as this it the body’s natural response to injury, and surgery is a controlled injury. In addition, most modern fillers are hyaluronic acid based, and this molecule can hold up to 1000x its weight in water! The molecule draws in water to add volume or “fill” the tissues.
Characteristics that affect the metabolism of these molecules include the size of the particles, their concentration and the…
