If patients have overhanging skin after weight loss and persistent stretch marks, they may need a body contouring procedure to achieve optimal aesthetic goals. Patients should be at their goal weight and that weight should be stable for at least three months before surgical intervention. The breast will continue to settle over the next few months. 50% of the swelling dissipates 3 weeks after a surgical procedure; 80% of the swelling dissipates 6 weeks after a surgical procedure. The remainder of the swelling resolves over the next 3 to 6 months and you may not see the final results until one year.
