Answer Snippet
Is it worth gaining weight or should I try dermal fillers to increase a low face fat volume when I’m
Facial Volume
Oct 27, 2021
Thank you for this question. Jawline definition is usually due to underlying bony structure and the soft/-tissue/muscle over these areas, therefore gaining weight will do little to define this area. Fillers, like Radiesse, can do an amazing job at defining these areas when done conservatively.
Best of luck.
Am I a candidate for cheek filler to add volume to my cheeks?
Cheek filler
Dec 15, 2020
Cheek filler is a fantastic way to draw more attention to the eyes, replace lost volume, contour the face and add definition. When strategically placed and done conservatively, it can look very natural.
Some well placed filler both on your anterior (front) cheek and lateral (side) cheek along the cheek bone would give you a refreshed look.
Best of luck!
Will fixing my downturned lips change my smile?
Frown and Smile
Dec 15, 2020
Thanks for your question.
While it is a bit difficult to answer without photos, the short answer is: both Botox and fillers can be used around the mouth to improve the downward turned corners of the mouth. When done conservatively to start, it can look quite natural but a lot depends on your age and anatomy.
Best of luck!
I think I had an allergic reaction to Botox/Dysport. I want to try it again. Is there a test to see i
Allergy to Botox
Oct 20, 2020
Thanks for your question.
Allergies to Botox / Dysport and the like are very rare, and while these are both used to treat migraines, they can also trigger temporary headaches / migraines due to muscle spasm from the needle (not the product) and / or the preservatives in the product. Migraines can and frequently manifest as dizziness. I do not know of any test to tell you whether you are “allergic” to the toxin because the product in and of itself, a toxin.
Best of luck!
What can be done to reverse my malar bags: filler, RF, CO2, microneedling or other?
Malar bags
Oct 18, 2020
Malar bags are one of the more frustrating aspects of our field since so many factors contribute to their development but there are things you can try. Assuming no other systemic issues:
-The least invasive is to try a combination of 5-FU and / or kenalog injection to shrink them. -Minimally invasive treatment such as FaceTite can be done to try and shrink them-They can be surgically removed but this leaves a scar
I would not recommend fillers to camouflage the area. CO2 or RF microneedling…
How to use tretinoin and aha’s together in skincare?
Retin-A and AHA
Oct 18, 2020
Retinoic Acid is like an exfoliant in that it turns your skin cells over so it is a fantastic medication for antiaging. However, it will make your skin more sensitive to acids and the sun.
Wait until you are acclimated to the medication – no peeling, major redness, or “anticipated reaction” before using acid washes or peels.
What filler will last up to 2 years?
Filler longevity
Sep 3, 2020
Thank you for your question.
Botox, Jeaveau, Dysport and Xeomin are toxins and work by temporarily weakening the muscle. Your muscles will get back their nerve supply in 3-4 months.
Fillers like Juvederm and Restylane can last up to 12 months depending on where they are placed. Voluma is the only FDA approved filler with a 2-year indication, but the patients in this study had multiple syringes injected.
Remember: filler in the lips and around the mouth will disappear faster than in the…
Can you have an open roof deformity without having rhinoplasty done? Are fillers an option to correct
Nasal deformity
Sep 3, 2020
Thank you for your question.
By definition, an open roof deformity is caused by a rhinoplasty procedure, but I see what you have on the bridge (or dorsum) of your nose. This is a deficiency in the bone and is part of your anatomy.
Fillers can help in this areas, but remember: Fillers in the nose should only be performed by an experienced injector as this is a high risk area. Rhinoplasty would permanently improve the nasal contour.
Best of luck!
Botox as chin implant? I want my chin bigger.
Chin Fillers / Implants
Sep 7, 2019
Fillers are a great way to augment the chin and contour the projection to your liking (Botox is a toxin that relaxes muscles, and while it can be used for an “orange-peel” chin, it sounds like you are asking more about making the chin bigger with fillers vs. an implant). Alternatively, chin implants come in various fixed sizes but can be customized to the shape of your face
If you want to go for something temporary, Radiesse (calcium hydroxyapatite) or hyaluronic…
What can I do about hereditary horizontal forehead lines?
Deep forehead lines
Aug 5, 2019
Forehead lines can be treated first with a neurotoxin like Botox to relax your forehead muscle (the muscle the pulls your brow up). Even when you are consciously relaxing, the muscle is still contracting.
Weakening the brow elevator muscle can make your brow drop, and I would recommend also treating your frown lines and lateral brow to elevate the brow.
If there are still lines that bother you after the toxin kicks in (3-7 days), can you try filler and / or…
What are my options for these two holes on my forehead?
Acne scarring
Jul 28, 2019
Acne scars are caused by tissue loss in the area where acne used to be. Treatments that generate trauma, either directly or indirectly, are options to decrease their appearance and build up lost collagen. Depending on the downtime you are able to withstand, lasers such as CO2, Erb:YAG, or microneedling with RF (radiofrequency) are just a few options. These should be paired with a good skin care routine to encourage healing after the trauma (products…
Can retinol increase collagen under eyes and improve sunken eyes/tear troughs?
Tear trough
Jul 28, 2019
Prescription strength Retin-A/Tretinoin is a great maintenance product for fine lines and uneven skin tone when used long term, and can improve the overall quality of your skin. However, it will not likely generate enough collagen to fill a hollow area. For hollowing, dermal fillers like Restylane are a great option for camouflaging the sunken area and blending it with your cheek contour. For a longer lasting option, fat transfer is great alternative. Good luck…
Cheek and mouth asymmetry: should I consider filler or surgery?
Cheek Fillers
Jul 28, 2019
Fillers like Voluma or Restylane Lyft are great options for volumizing. Remember- it’s not uncommon to notice “new” areas that are asymmetric when one area is filled, since no one is perfectly symmetric. Lastly, overfilling the cheeks can highlight temporal hollowing, so stick with a seasoned professional.
