I would like to know if the picosure laser can be used to remove a stubborn permanent tan?
Picosure and skinned that has been darkened by the sun
Sep 9, 2019
Hello,It sounds like you have "actinic bronzing" or a tan that remains, caused by sun damage.  I understand that you have had chemical peels which actually caused your skin to darken.  This may be secondary to PIH or post inflammatory hyperpigmentation on top of the bronzing.I would recommend starting with sunprotecting with a physical block with SPF of at least 30 and preferably a tinted block.  Utilizing retinoic acid at night and hydrqoquinone 4% (2 months on and take a break for 2 week...
Can I get emsculpt on my butt if I’m 4 weeks pregnant
Emsculpt during pregnancy
Jul 22, 2019
As a rule of thumb, cosmetic procedures are typically not done during pregnancy and should be done post pregnancy.  Some patients, post pregnancy, can get diastasis (or separation of the rectus abdominis) and Emsculpt has also been shown to help bring this gap of muscle separation, closer together.  If you are active, continue with your gym/work out routines that were performed prior to pregnancy.  Under the supervision of your OB, continuation of your exercise throughout pregnancy is a good...
SculpSure vs. UltraShape Power. Which one is more effective in fat elimination, and which one is sa
Sculpsure versus Ultrashape
Jul 11, 2019
We have utilized Sculpsure in our practice and have been pleased with the results.  There has been countless clinical studies with 1060 nm wavelength (Sculpsure) and we have even utilized it for submental fat (fat under the chin).  I have not worked with Ultrashape, but the difference is ultrashape utilizes ultrasound and sculpsure utilizes a laser wavelength.Sculpsure is a 25 min treatment and we recommend 2-3 treatments spaced 6 weeks apart.   Both options can target fat, but do not have...
How to get rid of redness, pigmentation, and dry dull skin?
Skin Rejuvention
Jun 17, 2019
First of all, great job starting at a younger age in caring for the skin.  I would continue with sunscreen with SPF of at least 30 and opt for a physical block.  I would moisturize with a hyaluronic acid or something with ceramides in it to help with the dryness.  However, to help increase cell turnover, maybe add a little AHA or retinoic acid at night time (but moisturize first).  After the summer has passed, then think about an IPL to target the reds/browns of the skin for pho...
Acoustic Wave Therapy - Where Can I Get It?
Acoustic Wave Therapy
Jun 4, 2019
There are several devices that utilize acoustic wave therapy such as Cellutone by BTL and Z-wave by Zimmer.  We utilize it in conjunction with body contouring.  When treating with Sculpsure or Emsculpt, we will often do Cellutone post treatment to help with lymphatic clearance and there is evidence that acoustic wave therapy can stimulate fibroblasts to create collagen.  It helps disrupt the fibrous septae and minimize the appearance of cellulite, but it does take multiple treatments.  We ...
Can Emsculpt be used for pectoral muscles?
Emsculpt contraindicated for pectoral muscle
May 28, 2019
Hi and thank you for your question.  Unfortunately, Emsculpt cannot be used for pectoral muscles as the location of the applicator would be over the heart.  Placement of the applicator over the heart is a contraindication secondary to the electromagnetic conduction of the applicator.  Hope that helps!
Will there be more "freezing" to come 4 days from Botox or is this it?
Botox and effects
May 8, 2019
Hi, botox typically begins to "kick in" starting from day 5 until 12.  That is when your total result post injection will be seen.  While it is hard to discern the strength of your muscles in the glabellar area without seeing you, 12 u to this complex is on the lower end.  For the majority of patients, botox will last between 3-4 and 1/2 months.  Hope that helps.
If I want my forehead injecting with Botox do I need my Glabellar doing as well?
Botox to frontalis
May 6, 2019
The frontalis muscle is the brow lifting muscle.  If done on it’s own, there is a concern of brow heaviness.  While it is important to be evaluated, we often recommend treating the glabella as the muscles in this zone, pull down, so when BOTOX is injected, it allows for the brows to lift which offsets the minimization of lift when the frontalis is injected.  It is always best to treat the frontalis cautiously as a little movement is good so that the heaviness is not felt or seen.
What happens if you avoid follow-up injections after one Sculptra treatment?
0.5 ML OF SCULPTRA
Apr 17, 2019
Hello,0.5 ml of Sculptra represents a small amount which parallels to the fact that a small amount of collagen will be produced, especially with one injection.  Wait 8-12 weeks to evaluate your changes and see where you are in regards to your collagen stimulation.  In other words, most likely it will be a subtle improvement, which sounds like that is your aim.
SculpSure under chin - I haven’t developed a lump or anything. How do you know if it’s working?
Sculpsure submental
Apr 16, 2019
Hello,Patients all heal in different ways.  We counsel patients that tenderness and slight swelling can be present for 1-2 weeks post Sculpsure submental and that in some patients, transient nodularity can be present post treatment (more often seen in lower abdominal contouring).   Patients begin to see slight reduction occurring around 6 weeks post initial treatment, but optimal results are present 3 months post the second treatment with greater reduction seen 1 year post.  Hope that helps!
What is IPL Laser Therapy?
Crying after IPL and reopening vessels
Apr 9, 2019
Your question relates to whether, crying after an IPL can re-open vessels.  IPL targets the hemoglobing and melanin of the skin and immediately post treatment you can see a vasoconstriction of the vessels and coagulation (sometimes slight purpura or bruising can occur).  The vessels, especially around the nose are "high flow" vessels and often times, rubbing the nose etc. can reopen them, especially in the immediate time after IPL.  Crying could theoretically increase blood pressure and bl...
Is Emsculpt for everyone? Or only those who workout regularly and already have good muscle mass?
Emsculpt treatment
Apr 3, 2019
My classic patient that I think is great for Emsculpt is someone with less than 7 cm of "pinchable" fat in the abdominal area or someone wanting a more "athletically" toned buttock area.  Emsculpt creates 20,000 high amplitude contractions to help build muscle mass and in the abdominal area, to minimize fat.  I consult patients that this supports and active lifestyle, or builds back core muscle, lost from years of less than optimal muscle building.  It is important to note though, if a pa...
Is this bluish spot normal after Voluma?
Blue spot
Mar 21, 2019
Photos are difficult to see what you may be seeing live.  With that said a bruise at the entry point can occur and can take some time to dissipate.  I do agree with previous comments that typically Voluma is a a deep injection so the worry of Tyndall effect is minimized.  Tyndall effect can cause a bluish coloration and occurs when product is in the superficial plane. On a side note, make sure to wear your sunscreen, SPF of at least 30 and the pigmented sun spots can be treated with an IPL.
What happens if you only do one emsculpt treatment, or just less than the recommended minimum numbe
Emsculpt treatment
Mar 21, 2019
The clinical studies looked at Emsculpt bi-weekly for 2 weeks (total of 4).  We have varied this depending on patients needs in our office.  Clinicians are showing results when even done weekly.  I do think a series of treatments are needed to show effect.  But think of it this way, if you are physically fit already and wanting an "uber" workout, one treatment could help support your current treatment regimen.  Otherwise we do recommend starting with a series of at least 4 and doing a "boo...
Botox, Xeomin and dysport immunity. Whats next? Will they work again if I wait for awhile?
Botox and effectiveness
Mar 12, 2019
I would first start by checking the units that are being placed in the glabella and ocular area if these are the areas that you feel they are not working.  Often times, the units administered are not enough.  I agree, it would be highly unusual for botulinum neurotoxin to work in one area but not another.  While antibodies can be formed to any of the botulinum neuromodulators, you would see the affect on all areas of your face.  Hope that helps.
