Juvederm and Restylane: Both Fillers Boast Excellent Results

A large number of injectable fillers are currently available for treating facial contour irregularities. Restylane and Juvederm are two of the more frequently used dermal fillers. They are both associated with excellent clinical results and high patient satisfaction rates.

Both Juvederm and Restylane are hyaluronic acid fillers that are extremely safe. When patients are unhappy following these injections reversal can be easily accomplished with the enzyme hyaluronidase. Although Juvederm and Restylane are very similar, several important differences exist.

Juvederm Vs Restylane Treatment

Juvederm has a higher concentration of hyaluronic acid when compared to Restylane. Many practitioners feel that Juvederm has a smoother softer presentation and is easier to inject. Other practitioners feel that Restylane results in less swelling when injected, then when Juvederm is injected.

Both Juvederm and Restylane last about the same length of time. Restylane typically last 6 to 9 months while Juvederm lasts 9 to 12 months in most cases. From a practical standpoint these are minor differences which wouldn’t be noticed by the average patient.

There are packaging differences as well. Juvederm comes in 0.8cc syringes, while Restylane comes in 0.4cc and 1.0cc syringes and these may be overfilled. Both Juvederm and Restylane are hyaluronic acid injectable fillers that are associated with excellent clinical results.

Although most surgeons prefer one over the other, both result in high patient satisfaction rates. If you’re considering treatment with hyaluronic acid fillers consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon is appropriate. This surgeon should be able to discuss the relative merits of these fillers for treating your specific problem. (Richard J. Bruneteau, MD, Omaha Plastic Surgeon)

An experienced injector can determine which is best for your skin anatomy

Both Restylane and Juvederm are non-animal derived hyaluronic acid injections that are used to add volume to the skin – plumping it – or to fill deep facial folds and wrinkles, to smooth them away. While they are the same type of filler, like any drug or device there are unique characteristics that may result in one being preferred over another.

Most specifically what is called the “particle” or molecule size for Juvederm Ultra, Juvederm Ultra Plus, Restylane or Perlane all vary. An experienced injector can determine what is based on your skin anatomy and the results you are hoping to achieve. (Robert A. Weiss, MD, Baltimore Dermatologic Surgeon)
