Juvederm And Restylane Before And After

Both Restylane and Juvederm are excellent products, and are both hyaluronic acid. We utilize both products as they do have slightly different benefits.

Juvederm is the more flexible product. Restylane is better for lip augmentation.

However, it is more important to have a trained and experienced injector, with the general preference of most patients that a board certified physician does the treatment. (Kris M. Reddy, MD, FACS, West Palm Beach Plastic Surgeon)

Minimal difference between Juvederm and Restylane

Both Juvederm and Restylane are hyaluronic acid fillers and are interchangeable as the difference bewteen the two is minimal . Longevity for both is about 4-9 months and the wholesale and retail costs should be comparable.

Juvederm Ultra Plus and Perlane are similarly equivalent products; both are thicker hyaluronic acid fillers lasting slightly longer, about 6-9 months and appropriate for deeper folds. (William Ting, MD, Bay Area Dermatologic Surgeon)

Restylane and Juvederm are head to head competitors

Restylane Refyne Package Insert

Restylane and Juvederm are head-to-head competitors vying for the largest piece of the dermal filler pie. Although Restylane has been FDA approved in the US longer (since 2003) and Juvederm since 2006, they are actually quite similar.

Each is a non-animal derived hyaluronic acid that lasts about 6-8 months and are safe for use in the entire face. Each also has a big brother that lasts longer (Perlane, Juvederm Ultra Plus). Medicis (the maker of Restylane) may be releasing a version of Restylane with a touch of local anesthetic in it, which may be a wonderful addition to the injectable menu, so watch out for this!

One thing is for sure…you will find patients who prefer one over the other, and you will find physicians who have a similar bias. But each can do the job well when used in skilled hands. (Randolph Capone, MD, FACS, Baltimore Facial Plastic Surgeon)

Juvederm vs Restylane: similar products, slightly different uses

Juvederm and Restylane are both hyaluronic acid (HA) products. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally-occuring substance in our bodies. There are no convincing data that demonstrate that one product is superior to the other with regard to effectiveness and longevity.

I like Juvederm for the lips and soft wrinkles/folds. It is generally softer than Restylane and diffuses further away from the injection site. I like Restylane for distinct lines and folds. It is firmer than Juvederm and stays where it is placed. Either substance can produce a good result in most patients and most areas. (Ronald Friedman, MD, Plano Plastic Surgeon)
