How Many Days For Botox To Work?
Botox starts to work after three to five days. For some people it may even take longer.
The effect builds up in the first 14 days. (Robert Kasten, MD, Mainz Dermatologic Surgeon)
Botulinum toxin (Botox) has a variable onset in different patients. Typically changes are noted between 3 and 7 days, however full effect can take 10-14 days. (Ronald Mancini, MD, Dallas Oculoplastic Surgeon)
Botox, wrinkles, and how long it takes
It may take a bit longer than a few days for Botox to work, so patience is a good idea. It is possible that there is an effect already, but it is subtle at this point.
You may want to check some pre-Botox pictures of yourself to make sure. That is one of the reasons we take pre-procedure photographs in most cases because we don’t always appreciate gradual or subtle changes as they are happening.
However, if you look back far enough instead of just a few hours or a few days or whatever, you can see that the change is actually dramatic and what you wanted all along. (Srdjan Ostric, MD, Chicago Plastic Surgeon)
When does Botox start to work
The onset of action of Botox is highly variable among patients. Some patients experience near full correction in 48 hours while others take as long as 2 weeks to see improvement. Five days may be too soon to judge whether or not the treatment is effective.
Give it another week or so. (Corey L. Hartman, MD, FAAD, Birmingham Dermatologic Surgeon)
It is difficult to explain why the Botox is not working. You probably should go back to the physician who injected you and show him/her the problem. (Sam Goldberger, MD, Beverly Hills Oculoplastic Surgeon)
No noticeable response from Botox
You may not see any effect for at least 4 – 5 days after Botox(R) injections with a full effect usually at 2 weeks so this lack of response should not be worrisome.
I would suggest following up with your doctor at 3 – 4 weeks after the injections so he/she can reassess you and your outcome. (Steven Turkeltaub, MD, Scottsdale Plastic Surgeon)
No botox effect yet?
Some people take up to 7-10 days to show the effect, after Botox injections. If you haven’t seen any effect by two weeks post injection, then return to see your injecting physician. (Thomas Fiala, MD, Orlando Plastic Surgeon)
No results from BOTOX
Takes between three to fourteen days to get results, so I would wait the full 14 days. (Michel Siegel, MD, Houston Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Botox not working
It is too early to see the results of the injected neurotoxin at 5days. I usually tell patients they will be at maximum effect at 2weeks. At this point if you are not happy, you should discuss your expectations with your injecting physician. (Purvisha Patel, MD, Germantown Dermatologist)
Most patients respond to Botox within the first several days after injection. If this is your first time receiving a Botox injection you may fall into a small subset of patients that have a delayed response.
It can take a full 2 weeks and sometimes even a few days longer to respond in these patients on their first injection. Subsequent injections respond without delay. (Lisa Kates, MD, Annapolis Dermatologist)
How long does it take to see results after Botox treatment?
Botox is a delayed gratification procedure. It can take at least 5 days, but usually more like 7 or 10 days, to see the results.
We do not assess the effects of the treatment until a full 14 days have passed. The amount of Botox that you had is also very important.
If before you had Botox you had creases that were visible when you weren’t frowning, you may also still have a deep crease even when the Botox has “kicked in” and the muscle is relaxed.
It may take several months of muscle relaxation for the crease to smooth out. Some people have creases that need to have filler injected into them in order to smooth out. Try to be patient and give it some more time, and know that you can always have a little more Botox to get the result that you are happy with. (Jordana S. Gilman, MD, Washington Dermatologic Surgeon)
Botox and effects
Botox usually takes 5-7 dyas for it to work. It is a bit early to worrry that it is not working. The lines also may not completely disappear. (Steven Wallach, MD, New York Plastic Surgeon)
Botox injections for the glabella
Peak effect of botox injections may only be seen as long as two weeks or more after treatment. It is possible that the muscles will start to be inhibited from moving in the next week or more.
The variable to judge Botox’s effect is not the crease but the muscle movement. Some people will demonstrate that the Botox worked by full immobilization of the muscle but the crease may take months of this muscle inactivity to fade.
It is possible, that you require more units. (Ronald Shelton, MD, Manhattan Dermatologic Surgeon)
Botox not working at 5 days
A unit of Botox is a unit of efficacy not a unit of measurement. Every patient will need a different number of units to effectively weaken the corragator muscle to decease the vertical creases between the brows.
If you get no result at 14 days then you will need a dose adjustment. Botox is not an exact science. (Jeffrey Zwiren, MD, Atlanta Plastic Surgeon)
Botox takes about 10 days to see the full effect
It can take ten to twelve days to see the full effect of your Botox treatment. If you are not happy with your result at that time, see your injector for assessment and possibly more Botox. (Martie Gidon, MD, FRCPC, Toronto Dermatologist)
