How Long Does Botox Last?
Botox can last longer when treated regularly
Feb 5, 2017
The simple answer to how long Botox lasts is 3-4 months for most patients initially. However, it is not uncommon for me to see patients whose results last 5-6 months (or even longer). Why are they so lucky? Well, the more in-depth answer is a little more involved--but is worth understanding. The longevity of your Botox result actually depends on several different factors. The most important ones to focus on, in my opinion, are: 1) How strong the treated muscles are (how deep are your lin...
How Long Before Botox Results Can Be Seen?
How quickly does Botox take effect?
Feb 5, 2017
Botox typically takes about 3 days to start taking effect, but it can often take up to 7-10 days to achieve your maximum result. Having said that, I have found that people who are consistent with their Botox treatments notice their initial effects as quickly as 24 hours and the full result within a few days. Moreover, many of my patients who have had Botox regularly for several years, often note that the results start to last longer than the 3-4 months they would see initially.Hope this he...
How Much Does Botox Cost?
Cost is important for Botox (or any procedure), but a Great Result is even more important
Jan 31, 2017
As you have probably seen, Botox and fillers are readily available at countless doctor's offices, med spas (and even other venues like airports, gyms, and shopping malls!). It is is understandable that there is a great deal of confusion as to why the prices can vary so widely. Ultimately, I believe that the simplest way to figure out what you should be paying for Botox is not necessarily where it is cheapest, but rather where you can get the best, most consistent results from. After all, tha...
How Long Does Hair Transplant Last?
Is a Hair Transplant Permanent? Yes, but...
Jan 29, 2017
That's a great question. The short answer is that the results of a hair transplant are permanent. The transplanted hair that is taken from the donor site at the back of the head (and potentially the sides as well) maintains its ability to grow no matter where you transplant it to (i.e. the bald/thinning ares). More accurately: as long as the hair is still growing at the donor site, the transplanted hair will continue to grow as well, since they share the same characteristics. For most me...
Crepey, Saggy Neck at 39, What Are My Options?
Neck Lift before 40
Jan 28, 2017
Thank you for your question. Weight gain (whether from pregnancy or not) followed by substantial weight loss, can often result in undesirable laxity and looseness of the skin in the lower face and neck area. Unfortunately, as we get older, our skin loses the ability to tighten and "snap back up" to re-contour our jawline after losing weight (and therefore the fat under the chin). Granted, this is more commonly an issue for men and women in their 40's and above, but it can happen in younger...
After a hair transplant, how many hair will be shed and how many will remain and continue to gr
Shedding after hair transplant
Jun 26, 2015
I advise my patients to expect anywhere from 70-99% of the transplanted hair to shed after a hair transplant procedure (FUT or FUE). Although the transplanted hairs often grow a little bit for the first few weeks, most of them invariably start shedding after 3-4 weeks. Although it is often upsetting to see this hair loss, the transplanted hair typically starts growing back at the 3-4 month mark and the results continue to improve over the course of a year.Hope this helps!Dr. Y
Lips only starts to swell 4 days into the filler injection. Is this normal?
Delayed swelling after lip enhancement with fillers
May 14, 2015
From the photo you posted your lips look fine. I don't see any bruising or unusual swelling. It is possible that after vigorous exercise, you might experience a little bit of transient swelling--although I am not sure about the numbness and burning sensations. It might be a good idea to have your doctor take a look at it just to be sure.
I got in a little scuffle and my nose is hurt and swollen. How Do I Know if my Nose is Broken?
How do you know if you have a broken nose?
Apr 15, 2015
The short answer is that you wait for any swelling to resolve (usually 3-5 days) and then see what the nose looks like as compared to before the injury. If it still looks deviated or crooked, it might be a good idea to have it repaired at that time.Often the initial swelling and bruising can make the nose look very distorted, but things settle back into looking like it did before the trauma after several days. This is why typically, I wait about 5 days before trying the surgically treat any...
Facelift Recovery
Recovery time after a facelift
Jan 12, 2015
The first thing to recognize is that a "facelift" can mean different things to different surgeons. For example, it might include the forehead, cheek area, as well as the lower face and neck in which case you're recovery will take longer than if the facelift is focusing on just the lower half of the face and neck. Having said that, in my practice, I typically have patients plan on 10-12 days out of work. After about a week, my patients are able to effectively camouflage any remaining bruising...
Can a second lift be performed on the face if a person is in their late 60's?
Can you have a second facelift
Jan 11, 2015
I think that ten years is a pretty typical amount of time after a facelift when people start to notice the jowling, and laxity re-appear in their lower face and neck. It is common to have a second facelift at that point. As long as there are no medical issues involved, age in itself is not an important factor. Although there are some technical issues that the surgeon needs to be aware of when performing a secondary facelift, excellent results can be achieved. You were right to hit upon an...
Post Facelift resurfacing, 60 YO, fair skin, blue eyes. What would be best for me?
Chemical peel or laser for skin resurfcaing
Jan 11, 2015
Although peels and lasers are both used for skin resurfacing, the right choice for you depends on what your goals are and how much time you have to recover. TCA peels can be very effective in addressing pigmentation, uneven skin tone, etc. but they will typically not have much of an effect on fine lines and wrinkles. A CO2 laser, on the other hand, can have very impressive results in both treating pigmentation and in reducing/eliminating fine lines and wrinkles. A CO2 laser treatment will,...
Is Light Sniffling and Nose Breathing OK 1 Day Post Op?
Breathing through your nose after rhinoplsty
Feb 14, 2012
It should be fine to breathe through your nose as long as you do it gently. Do not exert yourself or try to force air through your noes it is congested/stuffy (as it typically tends to be immediately after surgery). Although I tell my patients that is alright to gently sniff in, I would certainly not try to blow your nose within the first 2-3 weeks after surgery. Of course, I would be sure to ask you surgeon if you have any specific questions regarding your post-operative care...
Why Do Most People Choose to Have Fillers Instead of an Actual Facelift?
Fillers and Botox do not replace a Facelift (and vice versa)
Feb 3, 2012
This is a great question! I believe that fillers, neurotoxins (i.e. Botox, Dysport, etc), and surgical lifts are complementary procedures. In most cases, one type of treatment does not replace the need (or benefit) of the other treatments. For example, if the issue is heavy jowling or excess/loose neck skin, the best solution is going to be a procedure that can lift the sagging skin and the underlying layers. Botox or fillers are not the solution here. Similarly, if the issue is wrinkle...
