Does 'alar base' refer to the base of the bridge between the 2 nostrils when viewing from bo
Alar base
Nov 15, 2022
The alar base refers to the entire width of the base of the nose when viewed from below. The area between the nostrils is called the columella. Alar base reduction narrows the whole width and makes the nostrils smaller but does not affect the columella.
Main concern is dorsal hump & function - are my goals realistic?
Dorsal hump reduction with natural results
Nov 15, 2022
Yes, your goal is achievable. A hump can be taken down while maintaining a strong, natural profile. It is important to tell your surgeon at the consultation about your goals. The tip should not be pointy or overly rotated using modern rhinoplasty techniques.
Can my dorsal hump be shaved down without breaking my nose?
Dorsal hump
Nov 15, 2022
Most dorsal humps require removal with a rasp or osteotome followed by osteotomies ("breaking the nasal bones") to close the so-called "open roof" deformity that results. There are some bony humps that can, however, be rasped down by a few millimeters without needing to break the bones. Yours may be one of them, though it's a little hard to tell by just a couple of photos. An in-person consultation is best, as the hump can be palpated to see how much of it is bone.
When can rhino revision be done after minor in office rasp?
feasible, beware of risks
Jan 29, 2020
A revision could be reasonably performed 6 months after minor rasping of the dorsum. Make sure you have realistic expectations, as the risk associated with a third rhinoplasty is considerable.
I had rib rhinoplasty 6 months ago. Can I get fillers in the area that separates my nose bri
Filler in the Radix
Jan 29, 2020
It's possible to improve the appearance of the radix, between the bridge of the nose and the brow. Since you are still somewhat close to your surgery, and your nose will continue to heal, you may choose to wait a few more months so as not to change the way your nose is healing. Consult with your rhinoplasty surgeon, as they will have a better understanding of how your nose is healing, and whether the radix area was treated during your procedure. If they express no concerns, you could seek...
Can fillers in the nose realistically be used to make eyes closer together?
No, not really
Jan 29, 2020
No, fillers will not help you move your eyes closer together. Fillers can improve shape and add volume, smooth skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, but they will not cause permanent physical changes to bony structures like the orbit.
Which facial surgeries are most suitable to change the proportions of my face ? Main concern
You should not pursue those procedures, try these instead
Jan 29, 2020
I understand you would like to change the appearance of your nose and cheeks. While this is possible, I would think twice about surgery in your case.
Your nose could be narrowed surgically but the risk of causing an asymmetry might outweigh the marginal difference in appearance.
As far as buccal fat removal, I don't really appreciate a significant bulging of the cheeks on the photos you submitted.

Tough to evaluate
Jan 29, 2020
Thanks for your question.
There is asymmetry of the nasal tip, but it is difficult to evaluate the shape with the photo you provided.
You should consider consulting with your surgeon to determine whether revision procedure is necessary. I usually recommend waiting a year before considering revision surgery however.
Non-surgical rhinoplasty is a good alternative to revision surgery if the asymmetry is minor, as it seems to be. Fillers can often camouflage small...
Is 6 weeks enough time to quit smoking before rhinoplasty?
It's always a good time to quit smoking.
Nov 20, 2019
You are very smart to ask about when to quit smoking. Every day is a good day to quit smoking. 6 weeks before surgery is a wonderful time to quit smoking, if not sooner. The more time you allow your lungs to recover from smoking, the better.Smoking cigarettes is unhealthy and toxic. Smoke inhalation affects the functions of the lungs and can affect healing processes. With long-term use, conditions ranging from cardiac issues to lung cancer are commonplace.
If you are unable to quit...
I'm having surgery in one month how should I prepare?
Talk to your surgeon
Nov 20, 2019
Every surgeon has a regimen for their patients to follow when preparing for surgery. You should discuss the details of their advice directly with them during an office visit. Beyond strictly medical advice (e.g. no aspirin for 1-week before surgery, avoid alcohol) you should prepare a place for you to recover and take care of any obligations in advance of your surgery to allow yourself time and space for proper relaxation and recovery. You should have a friend with you during your...

6 Months post op
Nov 6, 2019
Hello! I recommend that patients wait until 6 months or so to evaluate the progress of their healing.
At one month, swelling is still a factor in appearance. Without photos, nobody can give you an evaluated opinion, but generally speaking you're in a normal spot in recovery.
Furthermore, when patients see their own face with different features, the experience can be visually overwhelming for some. Trust what your surgeon says, and wait a while before you worry....
What are my options regarding rhinoplasty? Would my nose be a good applicant for this surger
Good Candidate
Nov 6, 2019
Hello! Thank you for sharing clear photos from multiple angles. While the details of your procedure should be worked out between you & your surgeon, I believe you are a good candidate in general, and that aesthetic improvement can be achieved.
Your nose is nearly straight, but as you mentioned a bit too projected outward and the tip is perhaps bigger than you want it to be. Reduction of the projection, as well as the refinement to your tip, these are both achievable goals.
You...
Can you advise on a mole on side of my face that is getting pretty big?
Mole Removal
Oct 2, 2019
Having health insurance is ideal when approaching (non-emergency) healthcare services. That being said, there are health insurance policies that do not cover mole removal except when considered Medically Necessary (e.g. it is cancerous, or affecting eyesight, etc). If this is a benign growth, the treatment will likely be considered as cosmetic, and you will be directly responsible for fees and charges associated with your treatment.
There are financing options available,...
Can I safely get Botox after picking out unibrow hairs for years?
It should still be effective.
Oct 1, 2019
The botox will be as effective as ever, given you are seeing a skilled injector and receive a proper dose. Your concern about damaged skin may only be a factor if there are cysts, infections, or other problems in that area that would prevent injections.

Trichotillomania (pulling out hairs) can cause problems such as ingrown hairs and subdermal cysts, and it is often triggered by anxiety or stressful situations. Whether or not you have dermatological problems near that area, Botox is...

Can I go on rollercoasters a few days after having Botox in my face and lips?
Have fun!
Oct 1, 2019
While reduced activity (& plenty of water) the day of injections can help with potential spots and bruises, you should be fine to have fun on roller coasters as long as you are otherwise in good health! Be sure to have plenty of water while you are outdoors, and always wear sunscreen to protect that lovely skin! Water water water! Have fun!
