Styes are caused by bacteria that gets into and irritates the oil glands of the eyelids. I would make sure to cleanse the skin prior to applying the solution. Latisse comes with  applicators that are to be used for  applying the solution. The label should indicate that the applicators are for one time use only. I hope that I have answered your question.
