Am I a candidate for a lip lift? Is my philtrum too long?
Lip lift - Would you benefit?
Feb 5, 2020
I think the angle of the camera when you take the picture can change the proportions, but I can give you some general guidelines for how to determine whether lip shortening can be helpful.1) easy rule of thumb (typically more of an issue in older people): if your lower lip hangs beneath the bottom of your upper teeth, it is probably on the long side2) more complicated rule, but is generally applicable: the lower third of the face, from the base of the nose to the chin, is ideally divided in...
Swelling After Lip Fillers
Lip swelling common 48 hours after dermal lip filler procedure
Dec 3, 2018
If you liked your lips at the end of your procedure, then you will like your lips once the swelling goes down.  Lips tend to swell quite a lot because they are very elastic.  Also, sometimes the product that is used can contribute to swelling.  Some products tend to swell more than others - Restylane silk is an example of a product that swells more, but also gives beautiful results. I always let my lip patients know about the likelihood of swelling before we do the procedure. Please give it ...
Would upper lip augmentation help hide my teeth?
Lip filler can reshape the lips, lessening teeth show
Dec 3, 2018
Lip filler can be helpful to reduce the amount of teeth that are showing.  Considerations include:
1) keeping the upper lip volume in harmony with the lower lip (which can also be augmented to maintain proper proportions)
2) keeping the total lip volume in harmony with the size of your face.  You look like you have a smaller jaw width, so I suspect that your face would not be able to easily carry off extremely voluminous lips.  For that reason, you will likely be able to achieve reductio...
Does Epiduo Forte also help with blackheads? Or is it just for acne?
epiduo forte does help with blackheads
Sep 30, 2018
Epiduo forte has adapalene in it.  Adapalene is a retinoid, and retinoids help to unplug blackheads.  for more persistent blackheads, we can combine a retinoid with chemical peels and extractions.  Blackheads can be quite stubborn, but there are effective treatments.  See a board-certified dermatologist for a custom treatment plan.  We are the skin-specialists!
My nasal labial folds dissolved for the second time. Is it okay to use the dissolvent again?
You can dissolve as many times as necessary
Sep 30, 2018
Feel free to use hyaluronidase as frequently as needed.  Since you don't like the filler-in-the-NLF look, consider skin tightening (profound, ulthera, etc), or a thread lift, or filler in the midface, or a combination of all three.  This will more closely approximate your original contours, so you will probably like the result better.
Hard pillow under eye 1 day post Juvederm with cannula.
After filler, give two weeks for "settling"
Sep 30, 2018
I would wait a couple weeks.  I am slightly worried about the fact that you've had juvederm in the tear trough area.  Juvederm draws more water, so it tends to give a more puffy look in the under-eye area.
Filler after Hylenex? How long do I have to wait?
Wait a few days after hylenex
Sep 30, 2018
Hylenex works quickly (most of the effect takes place within minutes, but it may have a continued effect for 1-2 days).  I would wait to do the next injection until 1) the area has stopped changing and 2) there is no swelling/bruising.  Typically this time frame occurs quite quickly, but waiting a week would generally satisfy both criteria.
Had Botox twice and looked like a witch. How do I make it look natural?
The secret to natural-looking treatments
Sep 30, 2018
In all likelihood, it is not your face; it is the technique!  Sounds like you need a touch of botox to the lateral forehead (to relax the portion of the frontalis muscle that pulls up on the sides of your eyebrows).  The keys to a successful injection are:1) go to a physician that is experienced in botox injections2) go back to them at two weeks so that you can assess the results and tweak as necessaryI always invite my new patients to come back at two weeks.  That way, we can make sure tha...
O-Shot: Are there any side effects?
Side effects of o-shot include ...
Sep 19, 2018
Immediate side effects, lasting up to several days, include 1) spotting, 2) swelling, and 3) hypersensitivity to sexual stimulation.Longer term effects include 1) increased moisture and 2) increased sensitivty
Is the O-Shot painful?
O-shot is relatively comfortable
Sep 19, 2018
Surprisingly, the O-shot is a relatively comfortable procedure.  The clitoris and the vagina are first numbed with topical numbing medication.  Topical numbing works very well on the thinner mucosa of the clitoris and the vagina.  Most of my patients do not feel any discomfort with the clitoral injections.  Occasional patients do have mild discomfort with the injection into the vagina wall.
How long should I wait to get another Juvederm injection?
Wait two weeks before touchups
Sep 3, 2018
Generic answer: always wait until swelling and bruising have resolved before touchups.  More nuanced answer: Remember that the lips need to be in harmony with the face.  More is not always better.
Bumps under eyes after getting fillers 1 year and 5 months ago, how can I fix this?
Dissolve filler with hyaluronidase
Sep 3, 2018
Filler should not be noticeable!  As soon as you can notice it, the best action is to dissolve.  Luckily, juvederm is easy to dissolve with an enzyme called hyaluronidase! Please see a board-certified derm, plastic or facial plastic for best results.
Is there anything to avoid or do to make Juvederm lip fillers last longer?
Longer-lasting lip filler
Sep 3, 2018
There are certain fillers that last longer, due to more cross-linking.  Juvederm vollure is an example. We believe that fillers do not last as long in areas of excessive motion.  So, you could decrease the amount of motion by having minute amounts of botox or dysport injected around the lips.  You can decrease movement by reducing gum-chewing/staw sucking/etc.
Can Juvederm be dissolved in a few areas of the lip without loosing it all?
Selecting dissolving juvederm
Sep 3, 2018
The answer to your question is "it depends."  You can dissolve filler in the top lip without dissolving filler in the bottom lip.  But if you are looking for dissolving a little filler in a selective portion of the upper lip, this will be technically difficult.Your physician can control two things:1) the amount of hyaluronidase that is injected2) where the hyaluronidase is injectedThe vitrase diffuses, so it is somewhat like painting with a broad brush.
Can lip filler cause vision loss?
Vision loss after fillers - extremely rare complication
Sep 3, 2018
Vision loss can happen during any filler injection (lips or elsewhere on the face).  However, it is very rare.  The central face is more prone to this complication.  If this were to happen, the loss of vision would happen during the actual injection (not hours or days later) and you would know immediately. While this is a complication that can happen to anyone, it is less likely to happen if your injector is skilled and experienced and cautious.  Please visit a board-certified dermat...
