Answer Snippet
3 weeks post op tummy tuck, my incision reopened. Is this something to worry about or a sign of
open wound
May 3, 2019
Even during the early healing period there can be issues with the incision having minimal separation, drainage and a similar appearance. I would keep it clean, soap and water washing, a dressing to keep it covered. Would let you plastic surgeon know as well to follow it along but expect that as long as there is no worsening pain, odor, redness it should heal on its own.
Which breast lift is needed? Anchor or lollipop?
Anchor or lollipop incision
Mar 1, 2019
To answer your question there is not one incision that is better but which one is more appropriate for your breast. Looking at the pics, I believe you would do well with a circumvertical mastopexy (lollipop breast lift) but sometimes patients may need to have a small horizontal removal of skin at the lower breast fold. An in person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon can give you further guidance.
How does weight loss affect a breast reduction?
Breast change after weight loss
Mar 1, 2019
When we do breast reductions we want to leave a breast size that is proportional to the patient’s body so that when and if they lose weight, hopefully the breast size remains proportional. The amount of breast size decrease after weight loss is variable in every patient, depends on the percentage of the breast that is fat vs breast tissue. That is why women loose differing amounts of breast size with general weight loss. Not only can there be a change in size but also shape and nipple p…
I had a Tummy Tuck 3months ago, I’m taking showers, when would it be a great time to take a bath
Bathing after tummy tuck
Feb 7, 2019
At 3 months, as long as your incisions are fully healed with no drainage you should be fine taking a bath. If you had issues with your incision during the recovery period then make sure you contact your plastic surgeon to get the go ahead to take a bath.
Should I get a tummy tuck or can this be fixed with more exercise?
Tummy tuck or not?
Dec 3, 2018
I think that you have a component of loose skin what will likely not completely shrink with weight loss and time. Loose skin that has a slight overhang can only be corrected with a tummy tuck abdominoplasty procedure. That will give you the best results, help correct any muscle separation, and can be combined with some liposuction to improve contour. Once you have reached your ideal body weight, seek a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss options. Good luck.
2 weeks post TT Dark brown blood drainage from incision, should I be worried?
Drainage after tummy tuck
Dec 1, 2018
You might have a fluid collection composed of old blood/tissue fluid under the skin flap that never resolved and found a way to decompress and come out of the wound. The fact that is is dark likely indicates no active bleeding but you should continue to cover there open area to catch the drainage with gauze and follow up with your surgeon.
Should I leave open wound uncovered and not get it wet?
Open wound breast
Nov 2, 2018
You have an area of superficial skin loss and I would recommend gentle soap and water washing, a light ointment and a gauze dressing to catch the drainage. It will work on eventually healing up using the skin around the area. Continue to followup with your surgeon to monitor your progress.
Do I need fat grafting for tight indentation on side of my breast?
Breast indentation
Nov 2, 2018
There is a period of about 3-6 months that breasts will settle after a breast reduction, not only areas of contour but also skin pleating which can be more evident in a vertical reduction. I would not rush to make any judgements about final results and need for fat grafting until sufficient time has elapsed. Continue to followup with your plastic surgeon and discuss your concerns.
If a saline implant is partially calcified, do I need to remove the implant?
Calcified implant/capsule
Oct 31, 2018
More than likely it is the capsule around the implant that is calcified as the silicone shell and saline in the implant cannot be calcified. This usually is associated with a capsular contracture and if there is any pain or deformity, you might want to consider total capsulectomy and removal of the implants with exchange to a new implant. This should preferably be done on both sides to avoid the need to have to do the other side soon after if there is an issue on the other side, and…
Will there be huge holes in chest wall if I explant?
Removal of large textured implant
Oct 31, 2018
Removal of a large 700 cc implant will result in significant changes in your breast and it will take 3-6 months to see how much your breast skin will shrink to a smaller frame. You might need a breast lift to correct a low nipple position and tighten the breast skin.
Another option would to downsize implants, to maybe half the size, use a high projecting high fill implant that is smooth. This will keep some volume in the breast, fill out some of the breast skin and significantly reduce…
Breast Implant Removal Recovery
Implant recovery
Oct 31, 2018
Removal of breast implants under local anesthesia is a possibility, but a lot will depend on whether the patient will feel comfortable to have such a procedure done without any sedation. Local would not be appropriate for any capsule removal but capsulectomy is not usually required unless there is an issue with it such as a contracture. Patients may develop fluid collections that might require further drainage and depending on the quality of the skin and nipple position, further breast…
9 days post TT and lipo. How does my incision look? I’m worried about the bruising and dark spot
Wound healing
Oct 26, 2018
You might have some early wound healing issues with skin blood flow issues at the incision but could also be bruised from surgery. At this point in time, nothing to do for it other than allow your body to heal. I tell tummy tuck patients that wound healing issues is something we see with these procedures and usually local wound care is all that you need to get them to heal and rarely does any revision need to be done. Followup with your surgeon and they will help guide you through the…
What are the best treatments for my vertical scar following tummy tuck?
Vertical scar
Oct 26, 2018
I usually tell patients that while scars may take 6-12 months to mature, we can help the process along by supporting the scar during the initial healing phase. Once the wound/scar looks reasonably healed, by 2 weeks, I instruct patients to begin taping the scars. The tape we use is a porous tape that is changed every 5-7 days, allowing patients to shower with it on as it dries easily. It prevents the scar from widening under tension as the pull is on the tape not on the…
Should I go 200 or 225cc?
Implant size
Jun 25, 2018
Thank you for your question. A difference of 25 cc is very small with regard to overall visual size and I tell patients not to worry about such a volume difference. In following patients with augmentation, even those looking for natural results with a modest size increase, most patients have been happy with the larger size of their choices. One of the most common reasons for a revision in breast augmentation patients is a desire to go bigger in size. Therefore when we place implants, we try…
Are thick black scabs on incision normal at 3 1/2 wks post op?
Incision
Jun 25, 2018
Everything looks like it is healing well. With regard to standing up, most of my patients feel like they can walk upright within 2 weeks but some sense of tightness and hesitation at 3.5 weeks is not abnormal. As long as your followup goes well, and you are not pulled too tight, then likely your surgeon will encourage you to work more on upright posture. Good luck in your recovery.
