After the nose job is done, how will I be able to breathe after rhinoplasty? Will I be OK breat
Breathing after rhinoplasty
Nov 28, 2015
Most patients experience various degrees of congestion following rhinoplasty surgery, and most tolerate it rather well. If you have concerns about not being able to breath through your nose for several days, speak with your surgeon – it is possible to use splints containing a hollow tube though which you will be able to breath.Grigoriy Mashkevich, MDNew York Facial Plastic Surgeon
I am turning 17 and I really want a nose job. Am I ready for one? What is the process?
Rhinopasty at 17
Apr 11, 2015
Most patients at 17 are ready to undergo rhinoplasty, from the physical (appearance, end of the growth spurt, etc) and emotional standpoints. Parental consent will be required and parental involvement is important in the process of selecting the right surgeon. Consider seeing several rhinoplasty surgeons and ask for simulation and before and after photos, as these will be invaluable in making a decision about your surgery. Good luck,Grigoriy Mashkevich, MDNew York Facial Plastic Surgeon
Will my nose still grow after getting Rhinoplasty at 16?
Rhinoplasty at 16
Apr 11, 2015
Everyone follows different timing with their growth spurt. While general guidelines about one’s age are a useful starting point, it is important to know if the growth spurt finished before undergoing rhinoplasty. That can be gleaned from recent changes, if any, in height or shoe sizes. However, generally speaking, most 16 year old patients can undergo rhinoplasty safely, without worries of additional nasal growth. Good luck,Grigoriy Mashkevich, MDNew York and Queens Facial Plastic Surgeon
Considering Rhinoplasty, what do you suggest I get done with my nose?
Rhinoplasty advice
Mar 26, 2015
Rica, during your consultation ask for before and after simulations, these will greatly help you with the process. In brief, a smaller and straighter nose would fit your face much better, but there are many details that need to be discussed during your consultation. Good luck,Grigoriy Mashkevich MDNew York Facial Plastic Surgeon
Opinions on my side profile please?
Profile opinion
Dec 4, 2014
Given your concerns and the photo you provided, both the dorsal hump and nasal tip should be addressed. These can be lowered and contoured to create a more attractive shape. Simulation photos of your profile would help you visualize such changes – this is best performed during a consultation. Grigoriy Mashkevich, MDNew York Facial Plastic Surgeon

Rhinoplasty following sinus surgery
Nov 27, 2014
Cosmetic rhinoplasty can be safely performed following sinus surgery and your outcome should not be any different. The one exception is potential need to obtain cartilage from locations other than your nose (septum) if a previous septoplasty (reshaping of the septum) had been performed during one of your sinus surgeries.Grigoriy Mashkevich, MDNew York Facial Plastic Surgeon
Am I ready for a Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty at 16
Nov 18, 2014
Hi, it sounds like you are ready for rhinoplasty surgery from a physical and developmental standpoint – next step is to undergo an evaluation by a rhinoplasty surgeon. Good luck,Grigoriy Mashkevich MDNew York Facial Plastic Surgeon

Hanging columella and retracted alar rim
May 18, 2014
In your situation, it appears that the arching shape of your nostril is the main reason behind a ‘hanging columella’ appearance. You can benefit from grafting to this area to bring the nostril down. An in-office consultation with imaging would be needed to assess your situation in more detail.Grigoriy Mashkevich, MDNew York Facial Plastic Surgeon
Can I have a my Perforated Septum, Deviated Septum and Pinched tip all fixed at the same time?
Septal perforation and rhinoplasty
May 18, 2014
Rosa, you should consider doing all repairs in a single setting. Your nose requires structural grafting in order to revert and prevent future collapse. Cartilage grafting and sources can be determined at the time of surgery, however, chances are you will require grafts from your ear or rib. These are obtained through small incisions, which are very safe and heal well. Please visit several rhinoplasty specialists and discuss their experience with revision surgery. Grigoriy Mashkevich,…
Do I have a tension nose? Should I be scared of Prolene sutures placed permanently inside my no
Tension nose rhinoplasty and suture preferences
May 16, 2014
Anne, you absolutely have the elements of a tension nose – your septum is overgrown (presence of a dorsal hump and blunting of the lip/nose transition on profile views). Best approach would be open, which gives the most optimal visualization of the middle portion (valve region) and allows for better precision (just my opinion). Your tip can be effectively narrowed with sutures and grafts. With respect to sutures, it is a surgeon preference and bears no impact on the outcome. I use both PDS…
Is it possible to straighten my nose and what are the limitations in my case?
Rhinoplasty for deviated nose
May 16, 2014
Asja, it is possible to fix your nasal deviation with rhinoplasty surgery. Presuming you have not had previous nasal surgery and are otherwise healthy, there should be no limitations to fixing your deviation. In terms of expectations, healing can vary and depends on a number of factors, but overall you have a very good chance in having your nose be situated in the midline after rhinoplasty. Lip asymmetry can be addressed with fat grafting. It may also improve with rhinoplasty if your septum…
Where does remaining skin of shortened nose go?
Reduction rhinoplasty and overlying skin
May 16, 2014
In my experience there have been no instances of skin excess following reduction rhinoplasty, even in very large and long noses. The key lies in sufficiently elevating the skin in order to allow it to re-drape evenly over a smaller framework. Inherent skin elasticity also assists in this recovery. Grigoriy Mashkevich, MDNew York Facial Plastic Surgeon
What’s Realistic For Revision Rhinoplasty?
Revision Rhinoplasty Options
Apr 1, 2014
Revision rhinoplasty can be quite challenging, however, options exist depending on available tissues, extent of previous operations, and overall goals / expectations. Professional in-office photos and old operative reports can assist in making an optimal decision. In-office consultation is imperative in your situation. Grigoriy Mashkevich, MDNew York Facial Plastic Surgeon
What are the differences between the big-name surgeons and the ones covered by my insurance?
Finding the right rhinoplasty surgeon
Mar 8, 2014
Kate, visit several facial plastic or plastic surgeons based on their insurance participation with your plan (covers the functional portion of rhinoplasty). Get a feel for their experience with rhinoplasty, evaluate their work, have computerized imaging done, etc. This would be an excellent starting point. Grigoriy Mashkevich MDNew York Facial Plastic Surgeon
My nose goes crooked when I smile due to severely deviated septum. Will a septoplasty fix this?
Crooked septum and tip deformity during smiling
Mar 8, 2014
Septal deviation is only part of the story. You appear to have a very active depressor muscle that pulls your tip down and out when you smile. Removal of this muscle and fixation of your tip cartilages with respect to the septum (once it is straightened) is the best option to stabilize your nose. In other words, your need a full septorhinoplasty to address your septum / tip.Grigoriy Mashkevich, MDNew York Facial Plastic Surgeon
