I'm considering liposculpture. Can I expect a true hour glass shape with a flat stomach? (Photo
Liposuction, Liposculpture, Hi Def Liposuction of the abdomen and back
Feb 2, 2015
Congratulations on your 70 pound weight loss. From your photos, I believe that you are a very good-to-excellent candidate for liposculture/ liposelection. These terms refer to liposuction of not just one body area, but of composite body areas including the abdomen, lateral abdomen, flanks, back, and supragluteal areas. The procedure removes only external body fat, not internal fat. It also will not tighten abdominal muscles. If your...
Abdominal Etching - Do they feel real?
Body Etching, High Def Liposuction, Liposeclection
Feb 2, 2015
Abdominal etching procedures have been largely replaced by high-definition (hi-def) liposuction pioneered by Dr. Alfredo Hoyos of Bogota, Columbia. This procedure produces a very natural "six pack" for men and "two pack" for woman. This same technique can used on other areas of the body to produce better body definition. It can be safely performed in a certified surgical facility under local tumescent anesthesia so no general anesthesia is...
How long should drain stay in?
Drains for Tummy Tuck/ Abdominopasty / Avelar procedure
Feb 2, 2015
Drains are routinely placed after "tummy tuck" procedures to prevent collections of fluid (seromas) and blood (hematomas). Drains should not be left in for too long as they can lead to a wound infection. Every cosmetic surgeon makes their decision to remove drain(s) based on their patient. Normally drains are removed when less than 30 ml (1 ounce) of fluid is drained off over a 24 hour period. A new advance in...
Is lipo of buttocks an option?
Liposuction / Liposculpture/ Lipotransfer to the Buttocks
Feb 2, 2015
Liposuction / Liposculpture can be used on virtually any area of the body to sculpt and remove fat. Many woman want to enhance their buttocks which can be done by liposuction of excess fat with lipotransfer to the buttocks. During this procedure, the buttocks are routinely sculpted on the periphery to enhance their shape. Some men and woman have excess fat or enlarged buttock areas which can also be treated with liposuction directed over the...
Is Botox not enough for under my eyes/crows feet?
Botox, Laser resurfacing, Chemical peel for Fine Lines
Feb 1, 2015
Each patient is different but you have several treatment options. First, no treatment is required. There is a slight risk of temporary problems with Botox for lower eyelid thickening. A chemical peel (pure phenol or Baker-Gordon formula) will often help as will laser resurfacing but there is a down-time of of 10-14 days with a chemical peel and 5-7 days or more with laser resurfacing.
Does the drug pyridostigmine help alleviate if not outright reverse side effects caused by Boto
Reversing Botox
Feb 1, 2015
Botox is an extremely safe cosmetic treatment for facials lines and wrinkles with minimal side effects. In rare instances of eyelid laxity (ptosis) after Botox treatment, apraclonidine (Iopidine) and/or phenylephrine eyedrops three times a day can help until the eye muscles recover. Pyridostigmine is an interesting drug for the treatment of myasthenia gravis. It has been used for rare overdoses of Botox when Botox is employed at extremely...
Pricing structure and discounts on Smart Lipo
Liposuction, Smart Lipo, Vaser, Body Jet, and Coolsculpting
Feb 1, 2015
Smart Lipo is a type of liposuction technique which utilizes liposuction and laser. The original Smart Lipo units were underpowered and were of questionable value according to a Wall Street Journal expose on May 4, 2008. Since then, Smart Lipo has added additional power and wavelengths and is now effective. Other forms of liposuction include Vaser liposuction which uses ultrasonic waves and Body Jet liposuction which uses a powered...
Do small hairs (very small and not visible) on nose cause blackheads ? Can laser treat them ?
Acne comedones vs Trichostasis spinulosa
Feb 1, 2015
The most likely cause of your "blackheads" is acne. The dark color is due to oxidation of follicular skin oils. However, there is a disorder called trichostasis spinulosa in which very tiny hairs appear as "blackheads". If you have access to a microscope, you can find out yourself. Squeeze your "blackheads" onto a microscope slide and look for multiple hairs under the microscope. Acne and trichostasis spinulosa are treated similarly with...

Lasers for Hair Rem
Feb 1, 2015
All of the lasers you listed will help remove dark hair. Your gray-white hair can be treated only by electrolysis. In darker skin types, such as yourself, the laser intensity will need to be reduced to avoid scarring and hyperpigmentation. This lower intensity will make hair removal more difficult. A 1064 wavelength YAG laser is usually the safest laser for dark skin types. Many medical offices offer a free consultation.
How much money do you estimate it will take to remove my tattoo?
Laser Tattoo Removal with Revlite Laser
Feb 1, 2015
The difficulty in removing your tattoo will depend on the type of ink, quantity of ink, and depth of ink. In addition, there are differences in the quality of lasers. The cost of laser treatment will vary between laser specialists. My dermatology-cosmetic surgery office uses a top-rated Q-switched YAG Revlite laser. My usual charge is $100 to $150 per time for an estimated 4-8 treatments. I'm not sure what Canadian prices are for tattoo removal.
Is it possible to get lower lip symmetry with Botox?
Botox and Sculptra Treatment for Facial Assymetry
Feb 1, 2015
Botox and fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, Perlane, and Sculptra are often used successfully to correct facial assymetry. In your case, since other methods have not helped, a Botox trial may be warranted. If Botox is not successful, you should consult with your former face lift surgeon regarding surgical tightening of your lower lip.
Difference of treating African American skin vs tanned Caucasian skin.
Laser treatments for African American and tanned individuals
Feb 1, 2015
Lasers can be used successfully on all Fitzpatrick skin types, I to 6. (Fair to dark skin). However, there are different types of lasers and some of these should be avoided or used at lower intensity on dark skin. You may want to check with other laser physicians as some physicians do not have lasers that are appropriate for dark skin. Remember, laser treatments even at low intensity can cause skin darkening that is usually temporary. A trial...
Does Restylane tear trough injections pose a risk of scarring in EDS patients?
Restylane for Ehlers Danlos Syndrome
Feb 1, 2015
As you know, Ehlers Danlos syndrome EDS) is due to a defect in the collagen or collagen-related proteins in the skin. There are six known types of which you state you have the "classical" type (the former Type 2 by your history). As EDS can cause bleeding or scarring, I would suggest a trial of Restylane on your arm with a blunt-tip cannula. If after several weeks you do not develop a problem, do a similar trial on your temporal scalp area. If, after...
Botox for Jaw Reduction?
Jaw enhancement with Botox
Feb 1, 2015
Botox is used to paralyze the muscles of the jaw (masseter muscle) which leads to mild muscle atrophy and jaw contouring. As you use your jaw muscles daily when eating, most individuals need a Botox treatment every 3-4 months for 2-3 treatments to achieve initial facial contouring. Thereafter, fewer treatments are required depending on the size of the masseter muscle.
Can Juvederm injected along cheekbone last longer that 2 years?
Juvederm longevity
Feb 1, 2015
Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid filler. The main advantage of hyaluronic acid fillers is that they are usually reversible. In some patients, Juvederm will last several years as you report. I suggest your contacting the doctor who treated you as he/ she can reverse this problem normally at less cost to you. The other possibility is that this "squishy" area is something else and not related to your Juvederm.
