IPL after 10 sessions of laser hair removal at clinic?
Be Careful
Oct 26, 2023
Hey there! As a board-certified dermatologist, I want to emphasize the importance of understanding the differences between professional in-clinic laser treatments and at-home laser devices. While at-home IPL devices have become increasingly popular for hair removal, there are some important considerations to keep in mind.

In-clinic laser hair removal treatments are performed by trained and certified medical professionals who can customize the treatment to your skin type and hair color….

Peeling is Healing
Oct 26, 2023
Hello there! It’s great that you’ve been proactive about your skincare regimen, and I appreciate your detailed description. In dermatology, the concept of “peeling is healing” is relevant in the context of using products like Retin-A.

In dermatology, “peeling is healing” refers to the idea that mild peeling or flaking of the skin is often a sign that a product, such as Retin-A, is effectively promoting skin renewal. Retin-A is known to cause redness and dryness, especially in the early…

How much time between Vbeam sessions?
3-4 Weeks!
Oct 26, 2023
Good evening! You are correct – Vbeam treatments should be spaced approximately 3-4 weeks apart for optimal cosmetic results. Make sure to speak with your board-certified dermatologist to determine how many treatments are right for you.

Botox and Other Injectables!
Oct 26, 2023
Thank you for your question!!

Neck Skin Laxity with Age:
The skin around the neck is indeed highly prone to laxity as we age. This is primarily due to the natural loss of collagen and elastin, which leads to sagging and the development of fine lines and wrinkles. Additionally, the platysma muscle, which runs from the jawline down to the collarbone, can contribute to the formation of prominent bands in the neck.

Botox for Platysmal Bands:
Botox can be an effective treatment for addressing…

Age 25- Botox? Serums?
Botox + Serums!
Oct 26, 2023
Good evening!! I understand your concerns and questions about the treatment for the lines between your brows. It’s great that you’re being proactive about your skincare and seeking advice from a board-certified dermatologist! Here are some insights and recommendations:

1. Muscle Strength and Botox Units: It’s essential to consider the strength of the muscles in the area when determining the appropriate Botox dosage. The lines between the brows, often referred to as the “11 lines” or…

Is it possible to get rid of this line/vein thing on my nasal tip?
Vein on nose – Treatment
Jul 25, 2023
Hi Orangegrape,
Yes! It’s possible to get rid of that vein! However, you wouldn’t want to do sclerotherapy for it. Although sclerotherapy can be fantastic for the legs, décolletage, and backs of hands, doing it to the face is a big no no (could cause skin necrosis & potentially even blindness).
The way to treat your unwanted, visible facial vein would be best done with a vascular laser. I’d specifically use a vascular laser that targets hemoglobin like the v-beam laser.
Hope this h…

IPL and Kidney Transplant
Jun 26, 2023
Hi Somerset,
Yes, you can certainly get an IPL even though you’ve had a kidney transplant. Just make sure to have it with a board certified dermatologist, who will ensure you have the ideal skin type to get the IPL (and will best know what settings to use). The success of the treatment as well as the minimization of potential side effects is best guaranteed by ensuring you do it with a board certified dermatologist, who has extensive training in the skin and lasers. Unfortunately, I see q…
What’s the solution for light brown not fading after CO2 skin laser?
Hyperpigmentation after CO2 Laser
Mar 5, 2023
Hi Syed,
You need to start a cream with 4% hydroquinone (not stronger) twice/day + a topical retinoid at night. Continue with strict photo-protection. It should clear within 6 to 12 weeks. I offer virtual consults, so please feel free to reach out if you need help with this.
Good luck to you!

Lump under eye after filler and hyaluronidase
Feb 25, 2023
Hi,
It’s tough to determine from your photos. It’s possible that it’s your middle infraorbital fat pad. Fat pads typically bulge out and become more prominent when you look up at the ceiling. A series of 3 sessions with hyaluronidase 3 years after hyaluronidase acid filler should definitely be sufficient to break down any residual HA filler that might’ve been remaining. Are you sure that there was not any Radiesse (calcium hydroxylapetite) mixed in with the hyaluronidase acid filler you had…
Sclerotherapy for under eye veins – is it safe and effective?
Sclerotherapy to veins around eyes?
Feb 17, 2023
Hi eyesore,
Absolutely NOT! Sclerotherapy around your eyes is not safe.
The best treatment would be the long pulse Nd:YAG laser for those blue veins around the eyes.
Hope this helps!

How is scalpel sculpting different from shave excision for mole removal?
“Scalpel Sculpting”
Feb 8, 2023
Hi! It sounds as if someone is just trying to sound more unique to attract more patients by simply changing the name of shave removal to “scalpel sculpting” when they are describing how they remove a mole 😉 A scalpel is actually often used to do a shave removal of a mole. This procedure can be done with minimal scarring.
What is MOST important is for you to pick a board-certified dermatologist for two reasons. . . 1. The doctor looking at the mole will be able to tell you for certain…
In your opinion, is CO2 worth it for my scars?
Acne Scarring
Dec 7, 2022
Dear FightingTheScarring,
Yes, CO2 laser would help with your scars. But, you will likely need more than one treatment (spaced 6-12 months apart). And, you would benefit most from subscission in combination with the CO2 laser to free up areas that are tethered down. Also, make sure your provider is board-certified and has a lot of experience with lasers (and has a powerful CO2 laser. . . they are not all created equally).
Hope this helps!

Hyperpigmentation and melasma – what can help with the dark spots on my face?
Melasma, freckles, and sun damage. . .
Dec 1, 2022
Hi Thriving!
Let me first commend you for seeing a dermatologist for this!
A series of Clear and Brilliant treatments with the Permea handpiece would likely help you! Another option would be a series of picosecond laser treatments (for example the PiQo laser). The latter is a bit more effective (in my opinion), but, the former is also a great option. Regardless, I’d recommend that you start on a twice daily home regimen of medical grade (topical) skin care, as this will act synergistically…
What would be the best procedure to improve crepey skin on the arms and legs?
Crepey skin on the arms and legs
Dec 1, 2022
The BEST treatment for these areas is injections of calcium hydroxyapatite (hyperdilute into the arms and legs and standard dilution to the backs of the hands). The other treatments that you mentioned would give you a small improvement, but, not nearly what you can get with the calcium hydroxyapatite (Radiess) injections. Since the backs of the hands have lots of blood vessels (and you don’t want someone to inadvertently inject into a blood vessel), I’d make sure to choose a DOCTOR who is…
What’s best treatment for acne scarring? Thinking about CO2 but scared of pigmentation
Acne scarring treatment
Dec 1, 2022
Hi Royasami!
You would be a great candidate for the CO2 laser +/- subscission for your acne scarring! But, due to your more olive skin tone, it would be absolutely essential to be on several weeks of pre-treatment (prior to the laser) with prescription-strength topicals like hydroquinone and retinol to minimize the potential for hyperpigmentation after the procedure. You should also go to someone who is not only board-certified, but who has also done a fellowship in lasers so that your…
