Can Botox Open Eyes?
Botox brow lift to open up the eyes
A Botox Brow Lift refers to the technique used to cause the muscles in your forehead and around your eyes (responsible for pulling your eyebrows down), to raise instead of lower. This technique is very helpful for people who have eyelid hooding due to loss of elasticity in the skin.
When the brow is subtly raised, this downward eyelid droop is lifted, opening up the eyes. Botox does not cause skin sagging, it works by relaxing the muscles responsible for deep expression lines or wrinkles. (Jia Zheng, MD, Vancouver Physician)
A Botox brow lift can raise the eyebrows very subtly in order to open up and brighten the eye area.
A Botox brow lift can raise the eyebrows very subtly in order to open up and brighten the eye area. It’s a good alternative to a surgical brow lift for people who just need minor correction or who are hesitant about surgery.
It works by relaxing the specific muscles that pull downward on the brow, allowing the upward-lifting muscles to take over and pull the brows up.
It is a very safe and effective procedure in the right candidate. (Kory Kitagawa, MD, Honolulu Dermatologist)
Botox brow lift
A brow lift using Botox can help you brow your eyebrow into a better position and ‘open your eyes’ to a non-invasive way to help you start looking younger and help allow the tissues around the eyelids into a more natural position with minimal recovery time. (Sean Paul, MD, Austin Oculoplastic Surgeon)
Botox brow lift – subtle, but real
A skilled injector can use Botox to weaken the muscles that pull down on the brow. These muscles include: corrugators, procerus, and orbicularis oculi. Corrugators and procerus pull down on the medial aspect of the brow.
Orbicularis pulls down on the lateral aspect. The results are beautiful and natural: a more open eye, less sagging of the upper eyelid, and elevation of the brow. (Melissa Chiang, MD, FAAD, Houston Dermatologic Surgeon)
Botox to lift the brow
An expert Botox injector can create a lift of your brow line, creating a more open eye look by injecting Botox strategically in a few of the muscles. The change works, but is minimal and only lasts 3-4 months.
If you were looking for something more permanent, you might consider a brow lift. (Cory Torgerson, MD, PhD, FRCSC, Toronto Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Botox Brow Lift – Mechanism
Botox Cosmetic works by paralyzing the targeted muscles. With respect to the brow region, there are muscles that act to “pull down” the brows (the “depressors”), and muscles that “lift up” the brows.
With this in mind, specific muscle groups that “pull down” the brows can be treated with Botox Cosmetic, thereby, leaving muscles that “lift up” the brows UNOPPOSED.
Essentially, the balance between the 2 opposing muscle groups has been altered, creating the lifting effect. Although this technique works well, it is important to have a firm understanding of the facial muscle anatomy; otherwise, the undesired effect of brow drop could occur.
It is also important to understand that the effects of brow lift are subtle and mild, and patients should not expect an outcome that can be achieved from surgery. Having said this, many people only require a subtle lift and do not require surgery.
As true of all elements of cosmetic surgery, please consult your local professional expert to see which option is right for you. Generally speaking, the effects of Botox Cosmetic last between 3 – 6 months. (Christopher Chung, MD (retired), Corona Plastic Surgeon)
Botox works by relaxing muscles in the treated area. In some cases, these muscles may help to hold the brow up when they contract (like the muscles in the forehead that create the horizontal lines), or to bring the brow down when they contract (like the muscles between the eyebrows or around the eyes at the crow’s feet area).
By relaxing the muscles that bring the brow down during contraction, the brows are allowed to come up slightly, creating a lift of the brow position. Keep in mind that these effects are usually subtle, but can make a very nice improvement in some patients.
More aggressive brow lifting usually requires surgical intervention through various brow lifting techniques. (Matthew Richardson, MD, Frisco Facial Plastic Surgeon)
When properly placed, Botox can weaken the depressor muscular pull, allowing the elevator muscular pull to raise the brow. This is a very commonly requested procedure and is very popular. (Maurice M. Vick, Jr., MD, Baton Rouge Urologist)
Botox is a purified protein used to address wrinkles associated with facial expression. When injected into the skin Botox will relax muscles and decrease any overlying wrinkles. To perform a Botox brow lift, the muscles that pull down on the brow are relaxed with Botox.
These muscles are located between the brows and at the corners of the brows. Depending on the individual anywhere from 10 to 50 units may be used. Please consult with a doctor for specific recommendations. (Alex Eshaghian, MD, PhD, Encino Physician)
Botulinum toxin (Botox Cosmetic, Xeomin and Dysport) work by blocking the transmission of the signal from nerve to muscle thereby blocking muscle contraction. Using botulinum toxin to improve facial appearance relies on targeting the appropriate muscles with the appropriate amounts.
A ‘chemical brow lift’ can be created by reducing the downward pull of the muscles in the middle and the ends of the eyebrow while leaving the action of the upward pulling muscles of the forehead. (Heidi A. Waldorf, MD, New York Dermatologist)
Can Botox Pick Up Your Brows
Yes, Botox can absolutely help with giving a mild lift when injected correctly. It works by softening the muscles that are responsible with movement of your brows downward. Please refer to your treating physician for best guidance. (Edward Stokes, MD, West Hollywood Physician)
Botox Brow Lift
The goal in a number of patients is also to lift the brow to a more youthful position. This is accomplished by blocking the depressors of the brow. The frown muscles and your squinting muscles around the eye are the main ones which are weakened or blocked with Botox.
This allows the muscle of the forehead to compensate enough to raise the brow. Careful placement of Botox and a follow up visit to your injector usually a week after your injection would confirm the exact amount needed and your clinical response. (Robert W. Sheffield, MD, Santa Barbara Plastic Surgeon)
While activation of some muscles can raise the eyebrow, activation of others can lead to depression or drooping of the brows.
Targeting those muscles can lead to a chemical brow lift. It would be important to go to a specialist for such treatments. (Mahsa Sohrab, MD, New Haven Oculoplastic Surgeon)
An experienced physician injector can use botox to relax the muscles that pull down the muscles to provide a lift to the brows. This is very delicate procedure and should only be performed by an experienced and expert physician botox injector. (Kris M. Reddy, MD, FACS, West Palm Beach Plastic Surgeon)
Brow Lift with Botox
Botox works by relaxing those muscles around your brow, which when contracted for significant amount of time depresses your brow. Thus your brow is lifted when botox is injected into those contracted muscles that depress your brow.
Botox is a safe and effective tool for brow lifting in the hands of an expert injector. (Praven Chetty, MD, Kelowna Physician)
Botox lift.
Botox can be strategically placed on the forehead and tail of the brows to actually help lift the eyebrows, and lift heavy upper eyelids. If misplaced, Botox can also drop the brow, so a skilled doctor should assess the needs of the patient and anatomy to ensure the best possible outcome. (Kally Papantoniou, MD, FAAD, Great Neck Dermatologic Surgeon)
A brow lift can be achieved using Botox or Dysport. It involves understanding the anatomy of the muscles that cause the brow to lower. By weakening those muscles, you get a natural brow lift. I would definitely consult someone who has detailed understanding of the brow anatomy to achieve the best results. (Young R. Cho, MD, PhD, Houston Plastic Surgeon)
What is a Botox Lift or Botox Brow Lift?
The muscles of facial animation are balanced with muscles that lift and muscles that depress the facial soft tissues. Artistic Botox injections are used to create imbalance of the muscle pairs usually with the intention to lift the brow or the corner of the mouth.
Injections in the eyebrow depressors (the corrugators between the brows) and the orbicularis oculi at the lateral edge of the brow causes these brow depressors to weaken and the unbalanced frontalis muscles (eyebrow elevators) then lift the brow unopposed.
The lift is subtle but usually 2-3 mm is enough to brighten the eyes. Botox can also be used in the depressor of the corner of the mouth to correct a downturned “sad” mouth. These uses of Botox are “off-label” but are safe and effective for 3-4 months. (Kevin L. Smith, MD, FACS, Charlotte Plastic Surgeon)
Botox can be used to manipulate muscles of your face that work against each other to allow for a subtle lift of the outer eyebrow. A small dose of botox is injected into the muscle that surrounds your eye, weakening it just enough to allow the forehead muscles to lift your eyebrow.
This can create a very nice effect if your practitioner believe that you would be a good candidate. (Rachel Streu, MD, FACS, Portland Plastic Surgeon)
