Botox placed under the eye may help in some cases. In my experience these tend to be younger patients with strong muscles causing wrinkles during squinting, smiling etc.

Although Botox can be injected for some wrinkles under the eyes, generally this is not my preferred treatment option to address this area.

Most of the wrinkles and lines that occur in this area of the face are due to a loss of volume in the midface and under eye area.

A Tiny Bit Of Botox Can Be Used

This loss of volume creates an appearance of under eye wrinkles in a manner similar to how a deflated balloon might look. As such, I feel that replacing volume in this area with facial filler is a much better option for addressing this issue, and gives a much more natural result by “re-inflating” the wrinkled eyelid area.

Restylane is my preferred filler for treating this area specifically. In more advanced cases of under eye wrinkles, blepharoplasty or laser resurfacing may give much more significant improvement in this area. Still, there are some cases when small volumes of Botox injections in this area would be beneficial.

I would advise you to be cautious, however, as too much Botox in this area can cause a temporary effect of less movement of the lower eyelid with smiling. Studies of non-verbal communication have shown us that this lack of movement can inadvertently give people the impression that your smile is not as sincere.

Dermal Fillers Are Great At Improving Under Eye Grooves Or Dark Circles

Botox is awesome at getting rid of wrinkles around the eyes! Botox stops the little muscles from creating the wrinkles, even if their present when you smile big some of the fine lines with time can go away.

I think it’s a great idea to use some Botox in that area and then do some aggressive skincare treatments to help heal the skin while it is not as active.

Botox (and the other botulinum toxins) are useful in treating “dynamic” wrinkles: wrinkles due to repetitive muscle action. Lower lid wrinkles can certainly be due to this.

However, in many instances, these wrinkles are due to aging skin changes/loosening and chronic sun damage. In this situation, other treatment modalities might be more preferable. The best recommendation would be to see a well-experienced physician who has treated many patients with wrinkles in this area and who has experienced using the different modalities to treat different conditions.

Under eye wrinkles are tough. When injected under the eye, Botox can cause your lower eyelid to droop which can cause tearing, redness, and irritation of the eye. This is not aesthetically appealing!
