Can Botox Get Rid Of Deep Forehead Wrinkles?
Deep Furrow Wrinkle Treatments
Botox will work to paralyze the muscles creating such furrows however if they are present when your forehead is relaxed, you may need additional treatment.
To eliminate forehead furrows that are present when your forehead is relaxed, hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane or Juvederm can be used to smooth out the surface of the skin. (Kristin Egan, MD, Manhattan Beach Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Many treatments for forehead furrows
Botox is the first thing to try for improving what I believe is a deep vertical groove between the eyebrows.
If it were horizontal furrows you are talking about, I presume you would refer to them in the plural.
If Botox fails, fillers ,or implants or even excision can be done. (Sheldon S. Kabaker, MD FACS, San Francisco Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Treatment of a Deep Forehead Furrow
I find that Botox or Dysport is quite effective in treating deep furrows in the forehead.
Since these furrows tend to form over a long period of time and are usually present at rest (static lines) you would have to continue the treatments so the lines can fade over time.
Occasionally I will use a filler such as Juvederm or Restylane to speed up the process if necessary. (Mitchell Schwartz, MD, South Burlington Dermatologic Surgeon)
Botox excellent for furrows in head
The first line of treatment is Botox. This is an excellent, safe and very effective treatment for forehead lines. It lasts 3 1/2 to 4 months and the satisfaction rate is extremely high. (Steven Hacker, MD, West Palm Beach Dermatologic Surgeon)
BOTOX® and / or a filler for forehead furrows
If the furrow is more obvious when you frown or raise your eyebrows, then part of the problem is coming from excess muscle activity in the area, and that part of the problem can be treated by relaxation of the muscle with BOTOX® or another fomulation of BTX-A.
If the furrow is visible when your forehead is relaxed, then that part of the problem would respond well for Juvéderm™ or some other filler.
Quite often patients have a furrow which is visible at rest, but worse with muscle activity, so those patients benefit from the combination of BOTOX® to relax the muscle and Juvéderm™ to fill the crease. (Kevin C. Smith, MD, Niagara Falls Dermatologic Surgeon)
Botox, Dysport, Wrinkle Treatment, Beverly Hills Botox Dysport, Los Angeles Botox Dysport
Botox or Dysport would be the first thing to try for deel forhead furrows or creases. Botox and Dysport will relax the muscles causing the furrows and could be repeated at 4-6 month intervals to maintain the effects.
The procedure is done as an office treatmenta nd takes a few minutes. (Francis R. Palmer, III, MD, Beverly Hills Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Deep Furrow of the Forhead
The best first-line treatment for a deep creases of the forehead is Botox Cosmetic / Dysport to help relax the underlying muscles to reduce the appearance of creases / wrinkles in the overlying skin. There are more involved invasive procedures such as a brow lift which can also smooth out the skin of the forehead. (David Shafer, MD, FACS, New York Plastic Surgeon)
Botox injecitons combined with hyaluronic acid fillers may be necessary to treat deep lines of the forehead. (Edward Lack, MD, Chicago Dermatologist)
There is just no substitute for a personal consultation. Are you talking about a horizontal forehead line or a deep line between the eyebrows? This will have a bearing on what your best treatment options are.
Certainly, there are minimally invasive options with fillers and BOTOX. However, it may be that you have a line that will require surgical options. Do your home work and find a cosmetic surgeon that treats your concerns and have a personal consutlation. (Kenneth D. Steinsapir, MD, Beverly Hills Oculoplastic Surgeon)
Toxin and Filler needed
First thing. A botulinum toxin needs to be injected in the glabellar complex (frown area). After 2 weeks, the patient is reassessed. If the line is gone. Great. If not, then the patient should be given 2 options.
The first is to point out that the line will get smoother time and repeated treatments. He or she would obviously have to wait. The second option is to place a small amount of hyaluronic acid filler of low viscosity to immediately fill the area up.
Its this decision making done by the patient and doctor that will ensure trust and loyalty. (Hassan Galadari, MD, Dubai Dermatologist)
Botox and Filler
A horizontal line(s) across the forehead can be readily treated with Botox. Filler, conservatively placed, can mop up any residual line or crease. Injecting the glabellar area (between the eyebrows), will raise the forehead some, by relaxing the downward pull of those muscles.
Then a judicious amount of Botox (or Dysport) in the forehead itself should go a long way towards eliminating your furrow. Your physician, preferably a dermatologist or plastic surgeon, should be careful in not overdosing this region.
Too many units might lead to a brow drop. Remember you can always return for more units. A micro-droplet technique using either Restylane or Juvederm XC ( I prefer the latter for this job) should go even further to eliminate your furrow. (Arnold R. Oppenheim, MD, Virginia Beach Dermatologist)
Youthful forehead
The use of Botox can quickly and easily rejuvenate the appearance of the forehead by not only reducing the prominence of deep wrinkles, but also by elevating and reshaping the brow. In cases where wrinkles are persistent or unusually deep and may persist after 1-2 treatments with Botox, the use of a filler may be considered.
Overall, these procedures provide a high degree of satisfaction with modest cost. (Richard J. Wassermann, MD, MPH, Columbia Plastic Surgeon)
How to remove deep furrow on the forehead
If the furrow disappears when your face is completely relaxed (dynamic wrinkle), Botox can help relax the muscles that form it and it should smooth out. If the furrow is present when the face is relaxed, Botox injections by themselves will not be sufficient to smooth it out.
It will need to be filled with a filler like Juvederm and then the muscles that act on it should be treated with Botox so that your facial expressions will not re-form the wrinkle. It also depends on where the furrow is.
If it is within an inch of the brows, one has to be careful with Botox injections, because injections too close to the brow can actually lower the brow height. Fractional resurfacing lasers can also help decrease the depth and width of the furrow.
Depending on the size and location, a combination of treatments may be needed. (Emily Altman, MD, Short Hills Dermatologic Surgeon)
Botox works- but not for everyone!
The simple answer is that, if the ‘furrows’ of the forehead are a result of motion (in this case raising your eyebrows) then Botox will work for you as, properly administered, it will reduce (or even eliminate) your ability to raise your eyebrows.
The ‘not so simple’ answer is that, while Botox will reduce motion, in the case of the forehead you are using Botox to block the muscles that elevate the eyebrow. The net effect is that Botox of the forehead can lower your brow! This needs to be part of your Botox discussion! There are also some lines seen in some people on the forehead that are not a result of raiaing the brow- they are just worsened when raising the brow.
Although Botox will likely reduce the depth of these lines with motion, it will likely not eliminate the lines at rest. The best course of action that I suggest for my new Botox patients is to start off slow.
If you are undertreated, it’s easy to get a bit more. If you are overtreated you will likely be unhappy for about three months- the length of time it takes to typically wear off.
Lastly, make sure you know who your doctor is!!! Lately, Botox has become the latest craze in Gynecology and Dental offices. There’s even a Urologist near me treating patients’ foreheads with Botox! While cost is important, saving a few dollars might not be worth hating your appearance after your GYN treats your face!!! Just a suggestion!. (Scott E. Newman, MD, FACS, New York Plastic Surgeon)Relax it with Botox/Dysport- may need to fill with Restylane/Juvederm
I had these lines myself and I have used both Dysport and Botox- both have worked just fine. Give it a try. I suspect that would be all you need but sometimes a filler like Restylane/Juvederm may be needed or even a chemical peel or a laser resurfacing would be other options. (Robert F. Gray, MD, FACS, Bay Area Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Deep forehead furrows are easily treated
Botox is the mainstay of treatment of deep lines in this area. If you want more of an effect you can follow with facial fillers such as Restylane or Juvederm. Botox will last 3-4 months and facial fillers will last 6-9 months. (Elan B. Singer, MD, Manhattan Plastic Surgeon)
