Botox Furrowed Brow
The muscles in between your eyebrows can create a furrowed brow and cause you to look angry. You may also make this expression while reading, speaking, or concentrating. Some individuals find this unattractive and may choose Botox injections every 3 months or so.
The alternative is to remove the muscles surgically through small incisions in the hairline, and also perform a forehead lift if needed.
Surgical removal of the muscles is often temporary, and in my practice I cannot gurantee complete correction of the movement.
I also do not like the forhead to look too motionless, as I feel it looks “done.”. (John LoMonaco, MD, FACS, Houston Plastic Surgeon)
Allergan Botox is FDA approved for treatment of the glabellar region (muscles that create those furrows in between your brows that lead to the angry look). You are correct in that Botox will last approximately 4 months and will require additional treatments once the medical wears off.
If you are looking for more of a “permanent” solution, I would consider an endoscopic brow procedure. In the Endo brow, a skilled board certified plastic surgeon can actually divide a major portion of your corrugator muscles (essentially anatomically doing what botox would temporarily do).
These corrugator muscles are the reason why you have these furrows and that angry look. (C. Bob Basu, MD, FACS, Houston Plastic Surgeon)
Botox is best for a furrowed brow
Despite the fact that you don’t want to fit it into your schedule, Botox is the best solution for the angry look between the eyebrows. You can also have that muscle surgically weakened by a good plastic surgeon and then you won’t need so many botox injections.
Try botox first and make sure you like the way it looks, then if you don’t want the maintenance, think about surgery. (Rebecca Baxt, MD, Paramus Dermatologic Surgeon)
Botox or alternatives
Botox is a great start to see if you like the results. There are other procedures that can reduce this sign of looking fatigued or angry. An endoscopic browlift is a more permanent answer to the Botox solution.
I would suggest trying Botox first and see if the results accomplish your complaints. Then you may look into other more permanent changes via surgery. (Michael Elam, MD, Orange County Facial Plastic Surgeon)
The simplest, safest, and easiest approach to reducing a furrowed brow often is Botox injections. Although easiest, it may not be the most cost effective because you would need to re-inject every 3-4 months.
It depends on how severe this look is whether or not you and your doctor will decide which route would be more appropriate, whether it be Botox or a brow-lift possibly followed by laser resurfacing to decrease the wrinkles.
With increased use, you may see the Botox lasting longer and longer if that is what you choose to do, and it may be what works best for you. (Yael Halaas, MD, Manhattan Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Botox or Dysport injected to the area between the eyebrows should cause those muscles to relax and decrease the unwanted wrinkles. Try a Botox or Dysport treatment of 10 to 20 units of Botox (more if you get Dysport) and see how you like the results.
It will take 4-7 days for the maximum effects to appear. (Francis R. Palmer, III, MD, Beverly Hills Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Botox injections are the perfect treatment for a furrowed brow. Although it does require visits to a doctor’s office to get your injections done, I would venture a guess that once you get it done you will be so happy with your results you will not mind taking the time out of your busy schedule to go in for a 15 min treatment once every 3-4 months. (Martin Jugenburg, MD, Toronto Plastic Surgeon)
The Glabella region is an excellent location for treatment with Botox. Botox is quick, safe, and very effective– you will certainly be impressed and happy with the results. Botox, especially in this area, is consistently an extremely high satisfaction procedure.
Sure, Botox requires re-treatment every 4-6months–but I’m sure you see your hair stylist more frequently than that! We run a seperate cosmetic schedule with a dedicated nurse to ensure quick “in and out” visits for these procedures.
I don’t believe you are going to find any procedure as effective, safe, and easy as Botox for this problem. (Jeffrey C. Poole, MD, Metairie Dermatologic Surgeon)
At our facility we first consult with you to understand your concerns with your face. If the area of concern is the forehead, crows feet area or the creases between your eyebrows yes botox would help to soften your look. (Vincent N. Zubowicz, MD, Atlanta Plastic Surgeon)
The alternative to repeated injections with Botox or Dysport is the surgically divide the muscles causing “anger lines.” The goal of either procedure is to stop the contraction of the muscles. Botox chemically stops the contraction for about 6 months.
Dividing the muscle permanently stops the contraction of the muscles. However, it is important to know that if the lines are very deep, stopping the muscle contraction may not entirely improve the appearance and a skin filler may be needed. (David Bogue, MD, Boca Raton Plastic Surgeon)
The culprit that is creating this unwanted expression are the muscles that are slightly above the brow that pull inward towards the nose. Although it is recommended to receive neuromodulator injections every 3 months everyone is different and you may be able to go longer in between treatments since you goal is to not look angry, not be completely expressionless.
As far as your hectic schedule, there are many places that you can go to receive injections. Check the individual websites of Botox and Dysport to find physicians in your area with flexible hours to accommodate you individual need. (Lee Robinson, MD – RETIRED, Portland Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Alternatives to frequent neurotoxin injections
So we accept that Botox works very well for the furrow between your brows, but if you would like an alternative that is longer lasting to cut down on frequent visits to your plastic surgeon/dermatologist office.
The only alternatives that will really meet your goals are surgical. Several surgical options are available, brow lift, trans-eyelid muscle release, and eyelid surgery.
It is best that you meet with a board certified plastic surgeon who can examine you and detail you on the surgical options. (Farzad R. Nahai, MD, Atlanta Plastic Surgeon)
Botox is great for angry look
An angry look is from the corrugator muscle pulling the brow down. Botox is great for this but if you do not want to pay for Botox anymore, you can always have a browlift. (Steven Wallach, MD, New York Plastic Surgeon)
Botox and Dysport will help with a furrowed brow
Botox and Dysport are marvelous medications to rid yourself of the “angry” look, which is caused by the overactive muscles between the eyebrows. The medications prevent the muscles from contracting too much and when that happens, the brows gently lift and spread apart, taking away your angry look.
It lasts anywhere from 2-4 months so to maintain that look, you’ll have to get injections a few times a year. (Mikel Lo, MD, Tucson Oculoplastic Surgeon)
