Botox For Deep Frown Lines
Deep frown lines between the brows may need something more than Botox
If you start your botox early enough that you only see the wrinkles there with movement or have only fine lines at rest, that will be enough.
But if your lines are already deep at rest and movement, the Botox treatment will keep them from getting worse by keeping the muscles causing the wrinkles from moving, but you will likely still see the lines.
Improving them further requires using a superficial filler like Belotero Balance and/or a series of resurfacing treatments with a laser like the Fraxel Dual. (Heidi A. Waldorf, MD, New York Dermatologist)
Softenning your frown lines with neuromodulators
If you have deep gown lines that have been present for a while it may take a few sessions of Botox, Dysport or Xeomin before you see the changes you hope for. 20 units is a good amount for frown lines for females if they are severe 5 more units may help.
The placement is important as well. If they persists a filler maybe needed!(Tal T. Roudner, MD, FACS, Miami Plastic Surgeon)
Botox should star working within 2 days and you should see the final results by 14 days. Deep permanent lines may take a very long time to get shallower and less prominent. Sometimes you might need a filler like Juvederm or Restylane to fully correct the line that remains after all movement is blocked with Botox. (Daniel Yamini, MD, Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon)
When does Botox begin to work?
If you are unable to actively frown with animation, the Botox has done its job. However, for many, superifical residual lines may require more time to soften and resolve. For those that do not, or those lines that are still deep, you may want to consider other options such as laser resurfacing or cosmetic dermal filler to fill the depressions. (Harold J. Kaplan, MD, Los Angeles Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Frown lines post botox
botox takes about 5 days to see full effect, depending on the type of botox injected. if you have no movement left in the frown line area then botox has done its job. some people with deep folds, need a filler to help correct the area after botox.
if your lines were deep, your surgeon should have mentioned it in advance. (Rick Rosen, MD, Norwalk Plastic Surgeon)
Botox and filler for deep wrinkles
If you are not able to frown after your Botox injections and the lines are deep, you require filler to plump up the lines. Please visit an experienced dermatologist or plastic surgeon for your treatments. (Martie Gidon, MD, FRCPC, Toronto Dermatologist)
Botox Effects
Most patients see a difference in the first few days, though maximal effect is reached within the first two weeks. Based on your description, it sounds like you have static wrinkles and not just dynamic wrinkles.
Botox works best for dynamic wrinkles because it can prevent you from frowning and deepening those lines, but once the lines are there and are deep, it is much harder to address the issue.
You can soften the lines with Botox but they may never fully resolve. (Mahsa Sohrab, MD, New Haven Oculoplastic Surgeon)
Botox for frown
If you are unable to frown, the Botox has done its job appropriately. The Botox paralyzes the muscle, but does not fill in the lines. You may be a candidate for filler in the static lines you have at rest. (Peter N. Butler, MD, FACS, Pensacola Plastic Surgeon)
Botox for the frown lines
Botox is a purified protein used to address wrinkles associated with facial expression. The pivotal studies done for the frown lines between the brows demonstrated that when 20 units are used the peak effects are seen in 14 days and most people enjoy their results for 3-4 months.
Some people have such wrinkles at rest, that is even when they are not frowning. In these cases Botox will not make such wrinkles disappear completely. However after a series of treatments every three months the wrinkles get softer over a year or so.
It is not uncommon to use a higher dose if the standard dose of 20 units is not sufficient. Recent studies have demonstrated that higher dosing leads to a longer duration of action. Additionally, men generally require higher doses than women.
Please consult with a doctor for specific recommendations. (Alex Eshaghian, MD, PhD, Encino Physician)
Botox and Resistant Frown Lines
To see the full effects of Botox, please wait 10-14 days after injection. If after that time period, you stil do not see line softening; then appropriate dermal fillers in the hands of an expert injector might be your next treatment option. (Praven Chetty, MD, Kelowna Physician)
How long to see effects of Botox
Botox usually takes between 3 and 7 days to work, but may take up to two weeks in some people.
If the frown lines are persisting after this time period you may want to consider adding filler to soften the depth of the frown lines. (Mennen T. Gallas, MD, Katy Plastic Surgeon)
Botox for glabellar frown lines
The muscles that made the frown lines are now out of commission but it will take months for the lines to smooth out. You could consider filler to this area to tide you over until the skin smooth out.
Also, keep up with the Botox. If you had a frown habit, it will return when the Botox effect wears off. Also, it has been my experience that each subsequent injection lasts longer and often requires less Botox. (Lisa Lynn Sowder, MD, Seattle Plastic Surgeon)
Although Botox starts to work in the second to third day, on average, this means that the patient is not able to frown. Your point as you state, is that you can’t frown after Botox, but you still have the lines.
If the muscles are relaxed and you can’t frown, then by definition the Botox is successful and you don’t need more treatment or units. The lines are present from a long time of muscle contraction.
It may take many months, for a small percent of people, to maintain their inability to contract the muscles before they see the lines fading. This may mean having two to three treatments about three (maximum four) months apart. (Ronald Shelton, MD, Manhattan Dermatologic Surgeon)
Botox cosmetic
Botox can take anywhere from 3 to 14 days for its full effect. Botox works on “dynamic” lines, meaning those wrinkles caused by muscle contraction. If you still have “frown lines” after repeated treatments you may have “static” wrinkles which are not affected by muscle contraction.
Static lines are best treated with fillers. (Michael A. Fallucco, MD, FACS, Jacksonville Plastic Surgeon)
The effect of Botox takes several days but if you can no longer frown the issue may not be one of more Botox but the need for a filler to smooth any lines that persist even when your muscles are not contracted, this is what we call static lines.
I would go back to your dermatologist to have them make an assessment if a filler would be of benefit. (Ted Brezel, MD, Long Island Dermatologic Surgeon)
Botox and Fillers
The 20 units of Botox should be sufficient. If the static lines are still visible you may need to in fill them with hyaluronic acid injections such as Juvederm, Belotero, Perlane, Emervel or Restylane.
Consult with your board certified Plastic Surgeon for his or her opinion. If you maintain your results with Botox, the frown lines will eventually soften and be a lot less visible. (Omar Fouda Neel, MD, FRCSC, FACS, Montreal Plastic Surgeon)
