Botox And Restylane Combo Treatment

The two don’t have to be used together to get great results. But if you have deep lines in your forehead, it may make sense to use them both at the same time. (Carmen Kavali, MD, Atlanta Plastic Surgeon)

Botox and the HA’s like Restylane and Juvederm are a great cobination that treat two very different things. I use these products in combination all the time. The patients love them. (Steven Wallach, MD, New York Plastic Surgeon)

Combining BOTOX and Restylane

Combining BOTOX with fillers like Restylane, Juvederm, Perlane, Radiesse, Evolence or Artefill is the optimal way to treat the face as it addresses dynamic wrinkles (typically upper face), along with the volume loss associated with aging (lower face).

The combined treatment gives the best and most natural looking results and is highly recommended.

That said, sometimes only dynamic wrinkles are present or only volume loss of the lower face or cheeks, and so one or the other treatment is reasonable in this case. (Benjamin Barankin, MD, FRCPC, Toronto Dermatologic Surgeon)

Botox and Restylane complement each other

Botox and Restylane work in different ways to address the signs of aging.

Because there is more than one cause behind the visible signs of aging, lines, and wrinkles, there must be more than one solution for treating these lines and wrinkles.

In general, Botox is used in the upper face and fillers are used in the mid and lower face, but there are some exceptions. Over time, repetitive contraction of some facial muscles causes wrinkles on the upper face to become etched into the skin.

Because Botox relaxes the muscles, this is the treatment of choice for these types of wrinkles. Injecting Botox relaxes the muscle allowing the skin to become smooth. For wrinkles and folds that are caused by loss of volume, sinking or sagging of the skin, fillers such as Restylane are the appropriate choice.

These types of wrinkles are not caused by muscle movement and therefore are not best treated by Botox. Rather, a filler is needed to replace the lost volume and plump up the skin. There are, however, some wrinkles on the upper face that are not completely smoothed after Botox.

This is because the skin has thinned and the wrinkle has become so deep after so many years of repetitive movement that relaxing the muscle alone isn’t enough.

For these lines filler injections may be necessary to plump up the skin and smooth the wrinkles. (Jordana S. Gilman, MD, Washington Dermatologic Surgeon)

Botox and Restylane work well together

Using Botox in combination with Restylane or other fillers works very well. First off, by preventing the muscles from contracting, Botox may make the filling agent last longer than it would otherwise. In addition, using a filling agent along with Botox can help imrpove the appearance of wrinkles better than you could achieve by using Botox alone. (Joshua Zeichner, MD, Manhattan Dermatologist)

Botox & Restylane work great together

When used together, Botox and Restylane work beautifully. Botox is a molecule that allows the muscles of the face to relax. When these muscles are relaxed, the wrinkles in the overlying skin are smoothed. Restylane is a very popular filler that allows us to plump up some of the deeper lines and wrinkles.

Using Botox and Restylane together

In some areas of the face using Botox to relax the muscles that cause a downward pull or cause lines in conjunction with a filler like Restylane can be synergistic. Some areas however are not appropriate for both products as they work differently.

If the lines and folds are caused by muscles then Botox may be the ideal choice. If there is volume loss then Restylane would be ideal. An area for example that could benefit from both products may be the glabella where the lines that have been created by the muscle pull can be etched into the skin.

This is where Botox followed by a small amount of Restylane injected appropriately could really help to erase the lines. (Shawn Allen, MD, Boulder Dermatologist)

Botox& Dermal-Filler Best for Rejuvenation

Botox and Restylane help the face in different ways, but at times they complement each other greatly. Dermal-fillers add facial volume, smooth wrinkles, and restore the youthful facial contours. Botox and Dysport suspend muscle movement for the forehead, brows, and eye area, smoothing the lines and reviving the appearance.

When there are severe, almost permanent wrinkles between the eyebrows (an area called the glabella), it is helpful to use Botox or Dysport to relax the muscles then use dermal-fillers to reverse the skin creasing.

They also work synergistically around the eyes, the fillers help reverse dark indentations, while the Botox can reduce wrinkles around the eyes caused by squinting.

Often, I like using both products (Botox/Dysport and dermal-fillers like Restylane, Juvederm, Perlane, Radiesse) to provide the most facial rejuvenation. (David C. Mabrie, MD, Bay Area Facial Plastic Surgeon)

Botox and Restylane can give better results when used together

Botox and Restylane can give better results when used together, especially in certain areas. Traditionally, Botox is used to reduce the lines in the frown (glabella) between the eyebrows. However, you can often treat any lines that didn’t go away with Botox alone.

Similarly, downturning of the corners of the mouth are often treated with Restylane (or other fillers), but the results can be enhanced with Botox. Lastly, vertical lip lines can often be treated using both together. (Lawrence Osman, MD, Los Angeles Dermatologic Surgeon)
