Who Is Qualified To Inject Botox?
Generally, your state law regulates who can inject BOTOX Cosmetic. The law varies from state to state, but physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses or certified medical assistants (with or without the supervision of a physician) may be allowed to perform Botox injections.
The important thing to realize is that the injection of BOTOX Cosmetic is a medical treatment.
The administration of any neuromodulator, such as Botox, should be performed in a medical office and not in a spa, strip mall or at a Botox party in a hotel room! This being said, my patients choose my practice because they want a physician injector.
I would recommend that you do some research and schedule a few consultations with an experienced physician in your area. A reputable provider will answer your questions, evaluate your facial musculature, show you before and after photos of their results, use only name brand products, and give you an estimate of the units needed for your Botox treatment.
I also follow-up with my new patients at 2 weeks post-injection to assess for optimal results and “touch-up” any areas where needed.

Botox and practitioner qualifications
When getting any type of cosmetic procedure, we always recommend to do your research first and see a board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon who is highly qualified and trained to do these treatments and are familiar with and can treat any potential complications.
In addition, we always recommend to go to a reputable facility that uses brand medical grade products. There are many instances where patient get Botox from unknown sources and this is where you encounter complications.
Remember that you are having a neurotoxin injected into your body and you want to make sure that it is being administered by a highly qualified medical professional as mentioned above. (Diane Walder, MD, Miami Dermatologist)

A board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon may perform Botox injections.
A properly licensed and certified Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner, who work side by side with board certified plastic surgeons and dermatologists, may also perform Botox injections. (Leyda Elizabeth Bowes, MD, Miami Dermatologic Surgeon)
Botox can be injected by any licensed practitioner
Botox can be injected by any licensed practitioner. While it may be my personal opinion that certain types of practitioners are more suited to perform botox injections than others, the reality of the situation is that botox can be injected by nurses in most states, physician assistants, and all physicians.
There is nothing to prevent any specialty from performing this procedure.
My personal opinion is to go to someone with a lot of experience; however, even in the wrong hands a bad result is typically temporary and will usually resolve quickly.
I prefer facial plastic surgeons, plastic surgeons, dermatologists, and some oculoplastic physicians. (Scott Trimas, MD, Jacksonville Facial Plastic Surgeon)

Ideally a plastic surgeon who has been well trained in the use of cosmetic injectables. Today, however, there are many physicians from other specialties, as well as non-physicians, who are performing injections of Botox. (Jonathan Berman, MD, Boca Raton Plastic Surgeon)
