Restylane Or Juvederm For Marionette Lines
Restylane vs Juvederm – Six of one, half dozen of the other
Juvederm and Restylane are actually both very good products, marketing aside. In my opinion the key differences are that Juvederm is more cross-linked leading to a longer lasting effect. It also injects more smoothly typically.
I have noticed a tendency to spread through the tissues if the pressure on the syringe plunger is too much. Restylane is a stiffer product, and in my opinion, stays where you put it more efficiently.
Finally, the decision regarding which product to use often boils down to which product your injectionist feels most comfortable with.
As an aside, one thing that you need to realize with the use of any hyaluronic acid (HA) product is that it will ultimately be absorbed.
Their is little data to suggest that they have a collagen building effect. Some experts even suggest that longterm useage of HA may lead to thinning in the areas injected. You may find yourself shelling out a lot of money over time from repeated injections.
If more long term effects are desired, some of the volumizers (Radiesse, Sculptra, autologous fat, etc.) might be better. They are thought to actually build collagen. Repeated use then stack collagen up creating a volumizing effect.
They however need to be used deeper and are not appropriate to treat fine lines. They are great in areas like the nasolabial folds, marionettes lines, cheeks, along the jowls, temple areas, etc. (Manish H. Shah, MD, FACS, Denver Plastic Surgeon)
It Depends What You Want to Treat
Both fillers are essentially hyaluronic acids and will last approximately the same amount of time. JUVÉDERM Ultra is made by a different company than Restylane, but is essentially the same.
JUVÉDERM Ultra Plus is made by the same company as JUVÉDERM Ultra, but it is thicker and will last longer than the Ultra or Restylane. The thicker fillers are more appropriate where more volume is needed, and they tend to last longer.
They are usually used for nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and midface volume enhancement. In order to improve finer lines, the thinner fillers are more appropriate, but they tend to not last as long as the thicker ones.
It really depends on which areas you want to treat. Often, a combination is best. (Louis C. Cutolo, Jr., MD, FACS, New York Plastic Surgeon)
What is best for the marionette lines
The simple reason being is that no one product is best for everyone. Treatment decisions must be made for an individual and, in the case, one size does not fit all.
For the most part, Belotero, Juvederm Ultra, and Restylane are great for mild marionette lines. For moderate lines Perlane, Juvederm Ultra Plus, and Radiesse are often good options. For deeper lines, facelift may be best, but Radiesse or Perlane may help.
The bottom line… Just as a handyman does not only have only one tool in his/her toolbox, cosmetic surgeons must have more than one product at their disposal. (Robert S. Bader, MD, FAAD, Boca Raton Dermatologic Surgeon)
Restylane for Marionette Lines
Restylane is a great option for marionette lines, as well as other folds or hollow areas of the face (such as nasolabial folds, the under-eye area, etc.). This product is made from hyaluronic acid (HA), just like Juvederm, Perlane, and Belotero.
The differences between these have to do with crosslinking and viscosity (thickness and flow). This type of filler can last between 6 and 9 months in most patients. Radiesse is a different material (calcium hydroxyapatite) and lasts a little longer (9 to 12 months).
The key to getting the best treatment for you is having a positive relationship with a provider you trust — that was you can work together to achieve the aesthetic results you want. (Evan Ransom, MD, FACS, Bay Area Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Restylane is the ideal filler for age 35-44 to treat marionette lines
Restylane is a lovely filler, particularly for your age group. It will fill in the hollows and the marionnette lines in a cosmetically elegant wasy. If you have deeper hollows then you might require a little Juvederm or Perlane.
The key is to find an experienced injector who will give you the best cosmetic results. (Michele S. Green, MD, New York Dermatologist)
Restylane works well on marionette lines but I prefer Juvederm Ultra Plus because it has thicker particles and I like the result. (Paul Vitenas, Jr., MD, Houston Plastic Surgeon)
Juvederm, Restylane, and Radiesse can all provide good results. The choice you should make is the one to find an experienced and expert injector. He/she can then guide you on which product to use. (Kris M. Reddy, MD, FACS, West Palm Beach Plastic Surgeon)
Restylane is a great choice for marionette lines. It fills in the area very well and looks very natural , without looking lumpy or bumpy. Other choices include Perlane, Juvederm Ultra Plus, and Radiesse. Dr. Behnam. (Ben Behnam, MD, Santa Monica Dermatologic Surgeon)
Judgment of Marionette Line significance is best performed without smiling. I tend to use Radiesse because it is more cost-effective over time, particularly when the sole issue is volume. (Brian M. Braithwaite, MD, Chicago Plastic Surgeon)
Your doctor would be the best person to ask
Both juvederm and restylane will last around the same time when injected into the face. This is around 6-12 months in areas such as the NL folds and marionette lines, and is shorter in areas that frequently move like the lips, where it lasts around 3-6 months.
However, how long the product lasts varies between patients and is dependent on individual factors, such as metabolism and facial movement. In general, I’ve seen that restylane seems to last a bit longer than juvederm because it is slightly stiffer.
However, your doctor will be the best person to decide which product is best for your individual needs. (David P. Rapaport, MD, FACS, Manhattan Plastic Surgeon)
Gaunt in the Cheeks
Cheek lines can be treated with any of the fillers mentioned above. The challenge is in filling the lines without it looking bumpy or uneven and for the filler to not make your lower face appear square.
Finding a good provider with excellent skill in achieving a natural appearance, I believe, is just as important, if not, more important, than which filler he/she selects.
When choosing a provider for the first time, go with a short-term filler first (ie: Restylane or Juvederm) to make sure you like how it looks and how it was placed before going with a longer-term or permanent filler (ie: Silicone, Sculptra, Radiesse). (Amir Moradi, MD, San Diego Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Both products are excellent FDA approved hyaluronic acid fillers. Both products now come with an anesthetic component which eases the injection discomfort. I think the products are so close in composition that the difference is very small.
What is much more important is the injector’s experience. I have over a decade’s experience in filler injecting and I have not seen any clinical difference in the duration these two products last. Juvederm, Restylane and Belotero are the best products for beneath the eyes or tear troughs.
They are different and the nuances required to inject them vary, but an excellent result can be obtained with either by an experienced injector. There are superior products for the cheeks, nasolabial folds and marionette lines such as Radiesse and Perlane.
These two products tend to last longer, but are less suitable for areas of the face which are less forgiving. (Steven J. Covici, MD, Springfield Oculoplastic Surgeon)
you could have Radiesse, Perlane or Juvederm Ultraplus injected into the deeper lines, and Restylane, Juvederm Ultra injected into the finer lines. When you smile, though, you will still see your creases form. (Ronald Shelton, MD, Manhattan Dermatologic Surgeon)
Restylane is an excellent choice for Marionette lines. However other fillers give the same results but with potentially more longevity for the same or slighter higher cost (e.g. Radiesse). Each filler has its own properties which might make it a better choice for you. A thorough evaluation by an experienced practitioner is necessary. (Thomas T. Le, MD, Baltimore Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Combination of Restylane and Radiesse Works Well
Restylane works great as a dermal (skin) injection expanding wrinkles and supporting the skin during facial movement. For hollowness a deep tissue filler like Radiesse has much better longevity and a great ability to round out the shape of your face. (Louis W. Apostolakis, MD, Austin Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Restylane Good Choice
I prefer Retylane in this area since it is a little “stiffer” and will give you more support. Some might argue for a deeper filler such as Perlane 9deeper version of Restylane) or Juvederm Ultra Plus, but I think you would do fine with Restylane. (Arnold R. Oppenheim, MD, Virginia Beach Dermatologist)
Filler alone may not be enough
Restylane, Juvederm, Radiesse, etc., can all be used to fill in nasolabial folds and marionette lines. Folds and lines that are present when someone is not smiling are best treated with fillers. Which filler you use is up to you and your doctor. Lines that appear only when you smile are very hard to treat with a filler (of any kind). (Sirish Maddali, MD, Portland Plastic Surgeon)
