Eyelid Surgery Recovery
Healing and recovery following eyelid surgery
Feb 9, 2016
A cosmetic blepharoplasty is a rewarding surgery for patients, from both an aesthetic and functional standpoint. Recovery from blepharoplasty surgery is dependent on patients following the post op protocol, which includes applying ice packs intermittently while awake for the initial 48-72 hours after surery and taking care not to lift, bend or strain for the first week. Sutures are typically removed one week after surgery. While complete eyelid healing may take months, most...
I am 3 days postop of upper and lower eyelid surgery. What is normal?
Normal Recovery
Feb 10, 2014
When in doubt, call your physician. All of your
symptoms sound typical of day 3, and “normal” doesn’t exist as everyone reacts
differently. For example, one patient may have very minimal bruising, whereas,
another could have extensive bruising. Patients may experience itchiness along
the suture line, but pain is not normal and this should be addressed by your
surgeon to diagnose the cause. The
amount of bruising and sweliing may fluctuate on a daily basis. Once your sutures are...
Botox/upper bleph for 20 year old?
20 year old blepharoplasty
Feb 10, 2014
20 years old does seem young
for a blepharoplasy, however, without pictures and a thorough examination, it
is challenging to comment. Genetics can play a large role in the anatomy of the
eyelids, especially the heaviness of the upper eyelid. If the heaviness is
impairing the vision of the 20 year old, I would take her to an oculoplastic
surgeon to have a complete examination. At our practice, we’re seeing an
increase in patients in their 20s starting to have BOTOX injections as...
Who is a good candidate for botox?
Botox candidates
Feb 10, 2014
BOTOX candidates are those who wish to soften lines and
wrinkles caused from excessive muscle movements in the face. If you notice
wrinkles with facial expressions, BOTOX can help to soften the appearance of
the fine lines and wrinkles. To determine if you are a candidate for Botox,
look in the mirror and perform the following movements, smile, raise the brow
and contract your eyebrows toward each other.
If any of these movements bring out lines that bother you, then schedule
an appointment...
Botox in crows feet, mid under eye. Right eye bruised at temple, eye baggy and swollen?
Botox and Bruising
Feb 10, 2014
It is challenging to comment without a post injection
picture, but it is likely that the bag is related to the swelling and bruising
from the injection with gravity causing the excess fluid to settle linferiorly
in the lower eyelid region. Resolution
of the lower eyelid swelling is patient dependent and can be quite
variable. For your next treatment, make
sure you discontinue all blood thininnig medications, including over the
counter products, at least 7-10 days before the procedure and...
Is Sculptra Recommended for Hollow Eyes?
Restylane Only
Feb 10, 2014
As would many experienced injectors in this area, I would recommend the use of Restylane to treat the
hoolowness of the eyes and the tear-trough area. Restylane works very well to
achieve desirable results in this delicate area of the face where the skin is
thin. It is extremely important to
consult with an experienced physician in your area.
Radiesse for Tear-trough Area?
No to Radiesse under eyes
Feb 10, 2014
As would many experienced injectors in this area, I would recommend the use of Restylane in the
tear-trough area. Restylane works very well to achieve desirable results in
this delicate area of the face where the skin is thin. It is extremely important to consult with an
experienced physician in your area. Radiesse is a thicker filler and can be
used to achieve good results in the cheek and lower facial regions.
Is 11 Syringes Too Much Juvederm?
11 syringes
Feb 10, 2014
It is challenging to comment on this question without viewing pre-injection
photos, but it seems that 11 syringes of Juvederm is quite a large volume for a
patient in their upper 30s. I don’t ever recall using that much volume of facial filler in any of my patients. Most of the patients in our practiee in the
30-40 age range achive excellent aesthetic results with the use of 1-3 syringes
of facial filler. You may want to seek a
second opinion from an experienced physician in your area.
Can You Have Juvederm Injected Between the Eyebrows and Above the Eye Brown?
Glabellar Injections
Feb 10, 2014
Your wrinkles between your brows and above are cause by facial expressions
and contraction of those muscles in the area.
In my practice, I do not use fillers in this area and instead use Botox
to soften the wrinkles between the brows as well as crows feet by relaxing the
muscles that are creating the wrinkles. Facial fillers are typically
administered in the middle and lower regions of the face to fill areas where
volume has diminished.
What Are the Possible Reasons Why I Blacked out and then Became Very Nauseated After Juvederm i
Juvederm Injections
Feb 10, 2014
You do not describe typical allergic
signs or symptoms such as a skin reaction, breaathing difficulties or
hives, so it does not appear to be an
allergic reaction based on your description. It seems like you may have
experienced a vasovagal episode. The lips are typically one of the most
sensitive areas to inject and this could have activated your vasovagal
symptoms. If you do have any concerns
regarding allergic reactions to fillers, an evaluation with an allergist in
your area would be...
Can Both Upper and Lower Eyelids Be Done at the Same Time?
Uppers & Lowers
Feb 10, 2014
Yes, if a patient is interested in
both, I recommended performing the upper and lower blepharoplasty at the
same time. The postoperative recovery is
the same for both procedures, including activity restrictions, icing and antibiotic
ointment. Our patients also like this option as they may save on the overall
cost of the procedure when having the surgeries in combintion secondary to
potential decreased anesthesia, surgeon and facility fees.
Is Any Part of the Surgery Covered by Insurance?
Insurance Coverage
Feb 10, 2014
For patients in our practice who have symptomatic droopiness of their upper
eyelids, our staff performs testing during their initial consultation to submit to
their insurance. Frontal and side view photographs of the eyelids are taken as
well as visual field testing, to document any obstruction of peripheral vision
from the droopiness of the upper eyelids.
After these tests are submitted to your insurance company, they will
determine if you meet their predetermination status to qualify for...
Am I a Candidate for Upper Lid Blepharoplasty?
Candidate for a Blepharoplasty
Feb 10, 2014
I would not
recommend an upper eyelid blepharoplasty at this time. You have a natural upper
eyelid crease that does not appear to have excessive skin folding over the
crease. The contour of your eyelid is natural and your eyes have a normal
almond shaped appearance. I suggest
consulting with a highly trained oculoplastic surgeon in your area if you have
any further questions.
I Am 18 and I Want to Get Botox in my Top Lip, is That too Young?
Top Lip BOTOX
Feb 10, 2014
A consultation with a physician who is highly knowledgeable with facial
cosmetic procedures is recommended. The lines above your upper lip can be
treated with either BOTOX or filler, or a combination of both depending on the
severity of the lines. BOTOX can be injected in small amounts above the upper
lip to slightly turn up your lip giving it the appearance of fullness. If you
are looking for a fuller overall lip that lasts more than 3-4 months, facial
fillers such as JUVEDERM, might...
Can Crow's Feet Be Merely Softened with Botox?
Crows Feet Botox
Feb 10, 2014
This is actually a common request, especially among our male patients. This natural result can be achieved by
titrating the amount of Botox administered to meet the goals and expectations
of the patient. The designated areas are treated with reduced amounts of Botox
to relax the muscles, therefore
smoothing out the area, but allowing small amounts of lines to be evident with
facial expressions. Please consult with a physician who is highly trained in
injecting BOTOX in the highly delicate...
