Bariatric Surgery low 30’s BMI

Yes! You are a candidate for bariatric surgery. You will need to discuss with your surgeon which is the best option for you given your medical history, etc but usually a restrictive procedure like a gastric sleeve works best for patients with a low BMI ike yourself.
Will I be qualified for vertical gastric sleeve surgery with BMI 27.2?
Sleeve at a 27 BMI?

Hello There!
A BMI of 30 is the minimum BMI for having a sleeve surgery, this is when you reach the obese category. For patients with a BMI over 25 but under 30, in the overweight category, we offer the Spatz -3 Intragastric Balloon, it is not a permanent solution but it may help you lose up to 50 lbs in one year, this may be a good option for you to consider.
Good luck!

Hello! The answer varies depending on your starting BMI but for patients with a BMI 40+ like yourself a realistic goal may be to lose 1 lb a day during the first month. This is if you are following the post surgery healing diet your surgeon will provide. This will not be the rate at which you will continue to lose though. The first month post VSG is when patients experience the most rapid weight loss…

Regarding PCOS and Gastric Sleeve :
In our experience the majority of our patients with PCOS have a strong relationship between insulin resistance and abdominal fat. After having the gastric sleeve surgery these patients lose abdominal fat and insulin resistance improves dramatically. 80% of our sleeve patients with PCOS experience a reduction in symptoms.
