Bruising can always occur with any needle based therapy, including Botox and when a bruise this size does occur, it can be upsetting. Ice the area and continue the arnica orally as well as apply arnica topical gel directly to the area.
You may also try eating some Papya (contains the enzyme papain) that has been suggested speeds up the time for bruising to resolve. Avoid any medication that thins the blood as well as strenuous activity until the bruise resolves.
Go to the department store makeup counter and ask for their best concealer for bruises. (Francis R. Palmer, III, MD, Beverly Hills Facial Plastic Surgeon)
This is extremely common, especially under the eye. I wouldn’t do anything at this point. It was resolve. Vitamin K cream may help. (Gary Goldenberg, MD, New York Dermatologist)
After Arnica Montana, you could try the supplement Bromelain (which is a pinneaple extract). If your doctor happens to have a pulsed dye laser, PDL – often called a Vbeam – that would help speed up the healing tremendously. (Babak Azizzadeh, MD, Beverly Hills Facial Plastic Surgeon)
A Vbeam pulsed dye laser can help speed up healing of a bruise
A Vbeam pulsed dye laser can help speed up healing of a bruise. Look on Candela’s website under Vbeam to find a doctor who has this device in your area. Some people also take Bromelain which can help speed up the healing time. (Rebecca Fitzgerald, MD, Los Angeles Dermatologic Surgeon)
VBeam can speed up resolution of Botox Bruising
Things that can make bleeding more likely include the use of blood thinners including aspirin and ibuprofen, as well as any significant activity or exercise after the procedure. Fortunately, the VBeam laser can speed up the resolution of bruising from Botox and Fillers.
Only one treatment is required and it really helps break up the bruising! (Margaret Mann, MD, Cleveland Dermatologic Surgeon)
Bruising after botox
I’m sure this bruise is extremely upsetting to you! Bruising can occur with any injectible. This is probably due to the needle having hit a small vessel, and the fact that the eyelid skin is so thin.
Once bruising like this happens though, ice helps in the early post-procedure period.
Your bruise looks like it is starting to turn colors, which means that it is beginning to resolve. Arnica may help, but my best advice is honestly some good makeup.
All in all, it will probably take a week or two. (B. Aviva Preminger, MD, New York Plastic Surgeon)
Botox and bruising
For your next treatment, you may want to make sure that you avoid aspirin, advil and other nonsteroidal pain relievers and Vitamin E for a week, and alcohol for 2 days prior to any injection. In addition, make sure you use an ice pack in the doctor’s office immediately prior to each injection.
What to do for bruise after Botox injection
Cold compresses, arnica montana, and vitamin K cream all help. You can also apply a yellow concealer (looks like a yellow lipstick and you can get at any drugstore–some brands are Neutrogena, Almay, Physician’s Formula).
This helps to hide the purple/blue so then following with makeup/foundation will look better.
Helps to blot on the makeup with a cosmetic wedge sponge so you don’t get the streaks from smearing it on.
Make sure the physician has a lot of experience using these lasers on bruises specifically and they’re not just “trying it out” on you for the first time. (M. Christine Lee, MD, Walnut Creek Dermatologic Surgeon)
Avoid strenuous activity, apply ice, and continue arnica. (Richard W. Fleming, MD, Beverly Hills Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Laser, vit K gel, cover up makeup for botox bruise
Time will resolve this bruise but patients are very interested in speeding up healing. Treatment with a pulsed dye laser such as the Vbeam can hasten bruise resolution as can use of a cream containing Vitamin K oxide – such as Auriderm post op gel.
Natural cure for a Botox Bruise.
Eating Pineapple for the Bromelain is a good start. The millions of people who believe in homeopathy can’t all be wrong. Arinica Montana, in both under-the-tongue tablets and gel form will help it too.
Keep Arnica around the house for that unanticipated bump or trauma. Take Arnica on your way to your next Botox treatment. (Ritu Chopra, MD, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon)
What to do about a bruise after Botox injection
The most important thing to do immediately after a vessel is punctured is to hold firm pressure on the area for 10 minutes, so that the bruise doesn’t happen in the first place.
Laser treatments like pulse dye laser or IPL may also be effective, but if the bruise is already fading, applying a concealer makeup like Dermablend is very effective in hiding it. Salespeople at the Dermablend counter (in many large department stores or you can find a location near you online) can match the concealer makeup very closely to your skin tone. (Emily Altman, MD, Short Hills Dermatologic Surgeon)
Any needle injection or even blunt trauma can cause a bruise. The Anica will help. Also try Bromoline an enzyme found in Pineapple. (Jay H. Ross, MD, FACS, Palm Harbor Plastic Surgeon)
Bruising After Botox
Unfortunately sometimes bruising can happen. That is why, even though it is very rare, I always recommend not doing injections within a week of an important event. In any case, the bruise is now there and will slowly resolve.
Most bruises take 7 to 10 days to completely resolve. With a combination of Arnica and cover makeup you should be okay.
Some lasers are helpful in removing bruising, but these treatments are expensive and usually not necessary. (David Shafer, MD, FACS, New York Plastic Surgeon)
TIme is needed for this to resolve.
It makes the point that whenever one is poked with a needle there is a risk of bruising. My crystal ball says this one takes up to two weeks to full resolve, possibly even more time.
It is one of the reasons we advocate not having service close to an important event. Naturally the world assumes you have been slugged in the eye. The arnica is completely ineffective and is ultrasound and I have not been impressed with IPL for bruise improvement.
I do not think the recommendation of going to the local cosmetic store is all that helpful because they my treat you like you are the victim of spousal abuse. The green neutralizer bases can be somewhat helpful.
A kaolin based corrective foundation or camouflage product can help hide these. Use a hair brush to dust this area with a flat powder to soften any shine in this area. Wearing glasses helps hide this area and if necessary glasses with a non-corrective clear lens is an option. (Kenneth D. Steinsapir, MD, Beverly Hills Oculoplastic Surgeon)
A post-procedure camouflage kit will help conceal your “Botox-bruise” until it fades.
Thankfully your bruise will completely fade over the next 7-10 days. Lower eyelid skin is unforgiving, as you see, and a “shiner” is possible from getting your crow’s feet injected with Botox.
If your doctor does not have an aesthetician to help with concealing the bruise, you may want to visit a local cosmetic store for asssistance from NJ. (Eric M. Joseph, MD, West Orange Facial Plastic Surgeon)
Botox and bruising
Time will be your friend on this one and in the meantime make-up should help conceal the area. Bruising usually dissipates between 3-7 days, although some individuals can have traces of bruises still visible up to 14 days. (Rafael C. Cabrera, MD, Boca Raton Plastic Surgeon)
Botox Bruise
I would definitely ice the area, 5 minutes at a time few times a day. Arnica is great, you can also supplement it by taking pineapple. (Ben Behnam, MD, Santa Monica Dermatologic Surgeon)
