Statement: Dr. F. Victor Rueckl has been a leading board-certified dermatologist and skin cancer surgeon for nearly four decades. The founder of Lakes Dermatology and The Spa at Lakes Dermatology in Las Vegas, Nevada, Dr. Rueckl offers advanced dermatology procedures, including Mohs surgery, IPL photofacials, Kybella, Fractora, PicoWay Resolve laser skin rejuvenation, Botox, and dermal fillers like Juvéderm Voluma.

Dr. Rueckl entered aesthetic medicine in the 1980s, as collagen first appeared on the market and the benefits of CO2 lasers for treating medical patients and cancers became known. Since then, his expertise has grown alongside continuous innovations in aesthetic medicine.

“I chose dermatology because it allowed me to use surgical expertise in different ways. Now with aesthetics, I view my patients with a surgical and artistic eye. I think it’s an important distinction,” says Dr. Rueckl. “What I love most is combining complementary procedures with skin care, for overall skin health improvements. My goal is to provide safe, effective cosmetic and traditional dermatology procedures, with a level of care and kindness that is often missed in medicine today,” he says Dr. Rueckl.

Dr. Rueckl started medical school at the University of Nevada School of Medicine in Reno before transferring to Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts, where he obtained his degree. After graduation, Dr. Rueckl moved to Santa Barbara, California, where he completed an internship in internal medicine. He went on to complete a dermatology residency at Brown University School of Medicine in Providence, Rhode Island and a fellowship in Mohs surgery at University of California, Irvine, School of Medicine.

A native Nevadan, Dr. Rueckl moved back to his hometown of Reno and opened a private dermatology practice, where he also offered Mohs surgery for skin cancer treatment. In 1996, he moved to Bakersfield, California, to run Kaiser Permanente’s dermatology department.

A few years later, he decided to return to private practice and open his acclaimed Lakes Dermatology in Las Vegas. His practice is a Candela Center of Excellence for lasers and has the only SkinCeuticals flagship office in Nevada.

Throughout his career, Dr. Rueckl has continued to attend educational sessions each year, staying abreast of the latest innovations in cosmetic dermatology so he can offer them to his patients. Recently, he became an Allergan Medical Institute (AMI) Faculty Member. An Allergan Top 250 injector, he is also a national trainer for various injectables and laser manufacturers.

Dr. Rueckl is a fellow of the American Association of Cosmetic Dermatology and the American Academy of Dermatology.

I have lumpy and uneven lips one week after 1 syringe of Volbella. Is Hylarex to dissolve it my la
Lumpy and uneven lip filler
Sep 10, 2019
Hylenex can be used to remove the filler. I personally tell patients NOT to massage filler on their own, as they often make things much, much worse and move the filler around to unwanted places. This could have been what you did, especially considering you have Volbella. Small amounts of Hylenex can be injected to fix just the areas that the product is in pockets now. But please remember that removing filler is just as much as art as putting it in to begin with, so please seek an expert...
Is IPL the best treatment for my uneven, sun-damaged skin?
Will IPL work
Sep 9, 2019
My office has done more than 350,000 IPL treatments. We often see people who swear IPL doesn't work, then we do it our way, and it works. So the success of treatment is largely dependent upon your technician AND the device. This treatment is great for sun discoloration, reds, some browns, and general pigment, much like you have. Find a good local office, and not just someone with a device. Make sure the device they're using is one of the top IPL brands. "This answer has been solicited ...
Is it common for a nurse practitioner to perform Profound RF treatment to the back of the thighs w
Who can perform Profound?
Sep 9, 2019
Bruising on the legs can be quite persistent post Profound. In my office I delegate Profound treatments to my RN and MA to do the treatments (but I normally do the numbing blocks). Both have been trained and have far more experience hands-on that I do personally. Many offices don't have the physicians performing the actual treatments, but the patients who have these treatments done certainly are under my direct care and supervision. Your state will have guidelines on who can and cannot...
Difference between hyalourondise and vitrase?
Brand names of hyaluronidase
Sep 6, 2019
Originally, only Vitrase was available so we were all using that. Hylenex is now what is used more often in the U.S. as that's what's available from most commercial medical supply companies for purchase. None are stronger than others. It's just about the size of the vial. "This answer has been solicited without seeing this patient and

How do I know if I have any fillers left in my face?
Do I still have fillers in my face?
Sep 6, 2019
Most often, people need 1-3 treatments of hyaluronidase to remove fillers - for non-arterial issues. That's a general range for a "normal" amount of two syringes or so. To see if you "still have fillers" you should consult your pre photos. That would be the best way to determine it. Fillers are generally soft so unless you can feel them under the skin, you won't necessarily know they are there. As far as the dent, that appears to be general volume loss in the face. I don't see filler there....
Is it ok to have a Photofacial and Dermalinfusion/Silk Peel on the same day?
Photofacial and Silkpeel on the same day
Sep 6, 2019
You can certainly do them on the same day, though there won't be any benefit as far as superior results because you did. Both are relatively easy procedures, and we often do them on the same day for people, or combine Laser Genesis with Silkpeel or something like that. You don't NEED to do them on the same day, so if you don't want to, simply ask them to book them separately. "This answer has been solicited without seeing this patient and cannot be held as true medical advice, but only ...
Is the SilkPeel Dermalinfusion the same as the hydrafacial system?
Silkpeel Dermalinfusion vs Hydrafacial
Sep 6, 2019
Lemme give you the non-salesy answer.... Originally, the founders of the company that made Silkpeel, had a difference of opinion and split up. One kept the Silkpeel business, and the other went on to create Hydrafacial. They are very, very similar, yet also different because they have to be legally! Hydrafacial truly had an amazing marketing push behind it - and that's why that brand name is more well-known. However, Silkpeel was recently acquired by Allergan - the makers of Botox and many...
I'm 21 years old and have an acne problem, suggestions for accutane?
How much Accutane do I need
Sep 6, 2019
Accutane needs to be prescribed to you by a physician. The total cumulative dose will be between 8000-16000mg, cumulative dose over months. The daily dose depends upon the severity of the acne, the location of the acne, your weight, and the location where you live. Consult a prescribing physician and they'll be able to determine your dosage for you. "This answer has been solicited without seeing this patient and cannot be held as true medical advice, but only opinion. After Mohs surgery will Medicare cover reconstruction and hair restoration?
Insurance and Mohs
Sep 5, 2019
Insurance in general will cover the cost of the Mohs procedure and you will be responsible of course for your copay/deductible/co-ins. This is a medically necessary procedure to remove skin cancer. A reconstruction and hair restoration would not be medically necessary. They would be considered cosmetic and would not be covered by insurance. With Mohs though, the purpose is to remove the smallest amount of tissue possible while making sure the margins are clear of the noted cancer. So there...
Fractora RF vs 1540 Fractional laser with photo facial: What's the difference? Which is best for b
Which procedure should I get?
Sep 5, 2019
Well Fractora RF is just what it sounds like - fractionated radio frequency. It has zero ability to treat broken capillaries and age spots and has zero color to it. A fractional 1540 laser is a laser that's fractionated. It (along with photo facials) treat discoloration in the skin. Both are non-ablative or semi-ablative. But if your concerns are broken capillaries and age spots, you are going to be pretty unhappy with Fractora RF. That's just NOT what it's designed to do at all. Sorry that...
How serious is my "invasive well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma, involving biopsy border"
Invasive SCC diagnosis
Sep 5, 2019
First, I applaud you for noticing something that wasn't healing and going in to have it checked. Although invasive SCC sounds very scary, it's usually quite treatable with a Mohs surgery in that location. You will be ok. Continue to check your skin often. Now that you've had one type of skin cancer, you are prone to more surfacing over time (not because of your medications)."This answer has been solicited without seeing this patient and cannot be held as true medical advice, but only opinion...
Possible skin cancer. Would BCC or any other lesion turn dark/go through the same process of ACV w
Could this be cancer
Sep 5, 2019
ACV is basically a burn to the skin in the form of a sugar acid. (And very dangerous by the way.) Since technically any part of the skin will burn with ACV, turn black or dark, and then burn off the top, it could very well be a basal cell carcinoma or other type of skin cancer (which will have underlying roots). The only way to know will be to see a dermatologist and have it checked professionally. And please don't use ACV as a treatment on anything. It's just not smart and I've dealt with...

iPledge requirements
Sep 5, 2019
Yes, unfortunately. One of the rules of iPledge is that females of child bearing potential have a 30 day hold (to prove they aren't pregnant) before they can get their first Rx. So whether it's your first time, or the 10th time you're going on it, you will always have a 30 day hold before you can get a prescription. Should the treatment feel like it's burning and should it pop?
What should a Venus Legacy treatment feel like
Sep 4, 2019
Venus treatments heat the skin to a specific temperature and then maintain that temperature for a specific amount of time. That's how the treatment is effective. That being said, it should be warm, NOT overly hot. Sometimes there will be a popping sound or a zing! if the handpiece isn't in full contact with the skin. There should never be that many, unless you are especially bony, as that's the only time I've seen issues, which usually occurs on the forehead. Remember that all treatments...
How can Picoway be used to treat Melasma?
PicoWay and melasma
Sep 4, 2019
In all honesty, it depends on the depth of the melasma. Sometimes we use the Resolve handpiece, and sometimes the Zoom. Both are effective depending upon where the depth of the melasma lies. It is necessary to pre-treat with HQ as well, and to cool the skin immediately post treatment to avoid excessive heat and the possibility of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. We've had amazing success treating pigment and melasma with PicoWay. It's the best I've seen but it does take time and...
