Answer Snippet
Is there a difference between how deep voluma vs. Radiesse is injected in the temples?
Temple and zygoma fillers
Nov 8, 2019
I normally inject both fillers right above the bone to avoid blood vessels. Both fill above that plane because of displacement. Normally I gently place the needle over the bone. If I did a subdermal placement which I have done on occasion I use a 22 guage cannula to avoid the blood vessels. I would chose that technique to inject the temples for a patient with osteoporosis with very thin periorbital bones to avoid diffusion of lidocaine around the eye which could cause temporary double vision.
When getting Voluma, how can you immediately tell the difference between a bad reaction (blindness)
Blindness after fillers
Nov 8, 2019
Prevention of those complications should be first and foremost.
When you are getting treatments make sure you are lying flat and fainting rarely occurs while in that position.
Make sure your injector uses a 22 guage cannula to avoid placing filler in your arteries.
Blindness after fillers is noticed immediately or sometimes delayed after the injections and won't go away quickly like when you faint. It would only occur on one side. If it occurs it should be treated as soon as possible and...
Is insomnia after Juvederm and Voluma injections in the temple something that can happen?
Temple filler
Nov 8, 2019
My patients tell me they have headaches up to two weeks after having their temples injected.
They like the cosmetic improvement so its a trade off for them. Maybe you are having some discomfort or anxiety.
The fillers are temporary so you don't have to dissolve them. If your insomnia persists see a sleep specialist and only dissolve the filler as a last resort.
Can punch graft be done for rolling scars?
Acne scars
Nov 8, 2019
Rolling scars have a gradual dip or depression. If the skin is stretched they disappear. They are best treated with fillers or carbon dioxide laser resurfacing. The carbon dioxide laser tightens skin. I use Lumenis ActiveFX. I do not recommend punch grafts for rolling scars.
In contrast, ice pick scars are not improved by stretching the skin and punch grafts are useful treatments as well as Lumenis DeepFX carbon dioxide laser treatment which literally drills holes in them and they heal by...
How to get rid of redness, pigmentation, and dry dull skin?
Dark undereye circles
Nov 8, 2019
It appears in your photos you have hyperpigmentation and redness under your eyes.
I recommend you start using 4 percent hydroquinone cream under your eyes for two months and if still dark plan on doing laser treatment. This will also demonstrate you can use this product without an allergic reaction after a laser treatment even if you don't have significant lightening. The laser treatment can cause temporary hyperpigmentation but its location in the skin is in the epidermis and the cream...
Can you advise on a mole on side of my face that is getting pretty big?
Mole
Nov 8, 2019
I think it is a benign seborrheic keratosis. Since it is changing I recommend a shave biopsy because rarely a melanoma can have a seborrheic keratosis over it. You can ask for prices for removal and lab.
You may save money if the dermatologist reads their own biopsy slides.
Loss of native hairs on untreated area after hair transplant
Telogen Effluvium after hair transplantation
Oct 29, 2014
It is normal to shed hairs after a hair transplant in untreated areas around the transplanted areas and these will begin to grow after a few months.
What kind of a procedure would I benefit most from to eliminate the bags under my eyes?
Lower lid wrinkles
Oct 11, 2014
I suggest CO2 laser resurfacing perhaps in combination with pinch excision of skin under the eyelashes. It depends on your snap test to judge lower eyelid skin laxity.
Can anything be done to remove permanent lip color and liner that has turned black from laser attem
Darkened cosmetic tattoo
Oct 11, 2014
I published and recommend laser skin resurfacing for skin colored and flesh toned tattoos and tattoos around the lip. Q-switched lasers can blacken them and it is interesting Picosure didn't help. It is a relatively new technology and we are learning what it can and cannot do. Presently I use an erbium: Yag laser for that type of resurfacing. It is an area that can scar so go to a skin resurfacing expert. Expect multiple treatments done as soon as monthly.
I'm 13 years old. How to get rid of deep creases?
wrinkles and hyperpigmentation
Oct 1, 2014
I recommend you not rub your eyes and see a dermatologist. You probably have atopic dermatitis. Wrinkling and hyperpigmentation are characteristic of that condition. In general hyperpigmentation is treated with bleach creams. If that fails lasers can help. Additional wrinkles can be prevented by avoiding excessive UV exposure. Laser resurfacing can help.
6 months post op, what scar cream should I buy for my under arm breast augmentation surgery scar? (
Hyperpigmentation
Sep 6, 2014
Buy 4 % hydroquinone cream from a pharmacy. Have your doctor write a prescription and use it twice a day for two months.
How short should fue donor hair be?
Removing hair transplants
Aug 30, 2014
Hair transplants can be removed with electrolysis. Laser hair removal works for large areas and is not as precise as electrolysis and not suitable for eyebrow hair transplant removal.
How can I can rid of of Malar bags?
Malar fat pad removal
Aug 1, 2014
Kyocera and Bayer are attempting to get FDA approval for a fat dissolving injection which should help. I have used phosphatidyl choline fat dissolving injections with some success.Liposuction is too risky for the thin skin there as it may cause indentations.
Is the laser treatment for dark circles under eyes safe?
Laser for dark circles
Aug 1, 2014
You may benefit from laser skin resurfacing combined with a Q-switched alexandrite laser. There are some pigmentation risks such as lightening excessively or temporary darkening or a darker than normal ring around the lightening. The darkening complications will go away with time, sunblock and bleaching creams. Also the lightening of the dark pigmentation may not be permanent.Test spots should be performed prior to therapy. If you can wear makeup such as Dermablend it can cover the side...
How long for FUE hair transpant scars to recover?
Donor FUE scars
Jun 13, 2014
The donor site holes should close within a few more days. Vaseline can speed up the process but is messy and they will heal without it. Each donor site will become a small scar devoid of hair. If you choose to let your hair grow they are difficult to detect. If you like to shave your head they are much less visible than traditional strip harvesting scars.
