It can take 1-2 weeks for swelling to settle after fillers. It is possible that you may have some deep bruising and that is why it feels so swollen and stiff. I would give it some more time, and sleep elevated on 2-3 pillows (sleep on your back). I have extensive experience with skin of darker color, and I own many lasers. I do not use lasers on darker skin types to correct discoloration.... I have seen lasers worsen skin discoloration. It is safer and better to use a series of mild/moderate chemical peels to achieve your goal. Better to get there safely and not look worse than you did when you started.Best, Dr. P

2 days post Fraxel is way too soon to see any improvement. It will take 2-3 months for new collagen to be produced, so be patient. Your results will also be cumulative with your sessions. I would still recommend Fraxel 1550nm, 5+ sessions. It will help soften the appearance of your scarring. Combining the laser treatment with a long lasting filler such as Belafill may be a good option for your deeper pitted scarring to help level and smooth the areas. Best, Dr P.

If you do not have a history of melasma, you have a high chance of tolerating the fraxel. I have treated many women with fraxel that have been on birth control without any incident of melasma. I find that melasma is unpredictable, and taking a birth control pill may theoretically increase your risk overall for melasma, but it may still be work you getting a fraxel treatment if your scarring warrants improvement. The risk of melasma is there but is very small.Best, Dr P.

This can sometimes happen. I find that people with more acne prone skin will have this response to fraxel treatments. I recommend non-occlusive aftercare to help prevent clogged pores, better to use a hyaluoronic acid based moisturizer to hydrate (avoid aquaphor or ointments/heavy creams), and I will often prescribe topical clindamycin for patients that I know are high risk of getting break outs (sometimes even an oral antibiotic).Best, Dr P

I use the Fraxel Dual which is a resurfacing laser, that only requires topical numbing, most patients with this type of scarring benefit from at least 5 sessions.
